Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to express my views on how you could spend the allocated fund for more socially beneficial cause.

On on hand, Arranging two open concerts will be an event full of enjoyment. People of all communities and ages will come together, and It will strengthen our social bonding. In addition, our local musicians will be highly benefitted from this event since it will give them a chance to showcase their talent to the locality. However, this will have a short-term benefit for the public.

On the other hand, sponsoring a local children's sports team for two years will have a long term effect. Our young talents could get expert coaching stuff, world class sports equipment and update the existing facilities with the money. Which will ultimately improve their game, and perhaps in future, this will bring recognition for our town nationally.

Therefore, in my opinion, you should spend the fund to sponsor our children's team considering this will have greater benefit for our locality in future.

Yours sincerely

Jamil

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all parts of the prompt effectively. You clearly described the benefits of both the sports team and the concerts, and you provided a clear recommendation for the company. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, particularly the contrast between the short-term nature of the concerts and the long-term investment in youth sports. To reach a higher band, ensure that your opening statement is more formal and directly addresses the purpose of the letter, as 'more socially beneficial cause' is slightly vague. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each option, and a concluding recommendation. You used transition signals such as 'On one hand', 'In addition', and 'Therefore' to guide the reader. However, there are minor issues with cohesion; for example, the sentence 'Which will ultimately improve their game' is a sentence fragment that should be joined to the previous sentence. Additionally, the paragraphing is appropriate, but ensure that your transitions between ideas are always smooth to maintain a natural flow throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your ideas clearly. Phrases like 'social bonding', 'showcase their talent', and 'long term effect' are used appropriately. There are some minor errors, such as 'coaching stuff' (which should be 'coaching staff') and 'update the existing facilities' (which is slightly awkward in this context). To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing. While your vocabulary is adequate for the task, using more sophisticated synonyms would help elevate your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you show good control, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'On on hand' (repetition), 'will be highly benefitted' (should be 'will benefit greatly'), and the aforementioned sentence fragment. Punctuation is generally clear, but be careful with capitalization after commas and ensuring that your complex sentences are grammatically complete. Most of your sentences are error-free, and the meaning is never obscured, which is a positive sign for your overall grammatical control.
