Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to give a feedback on the sponsorship offered to either to sports team or on an open-air concerts. From my perspective, it is crucial to fund the local children's sports team as they are the rising future of our community and helping them financially will change their life.
Firstly, it will enhance the productivity of kids playing the game without stressing on the funding. Moreover, this will offer an opportunity to represent the community at a national level and this may increase their chances of getting selected in a sports school at the end.
Secondly, if the money is spent on an open-air show, it will lighten up the locality with fun and enjoyment. People suffering from financial debt or stress may not be able to afford the tickets. If this concert happens, they will enjoy the night with utmost joy. Furthermore, it may reduce the depression and will spread happiness around the locality.
I hope my suggestions help the company to make their decision.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Yours faithfully,
Harman

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly describe the benefits of the sports team sponsorship, such as fostering future talent and reducing financial stress for families. You also outline the benefits of the concerts, focusing on community enjoyment and mental well-being. Your position on which option to choose is clear, as you advocate for the sports team. The ideas are relevant and sufficiently developed for a General Training Task 1. To reach a higher band, ensure that your tone remains consistently formal throughout, as some phrasing feels slightly informal for a letter to a company.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each option, and a concluding recommendation. You use transition signals such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'Secondly' to guide the reader through your arguments. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different topics. The progression of ideas is smooth, and the letter follows a standard formal structure. To improve, ensure that the connection between sentences is more varied, as some transitions are quite standard. Overall, the information is easy to follow and well-structured.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'productivity', 'community', and 'financial debt'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'give a feedback' should be 'provide feedback' (feedback is uncountable), and 'stressing on the funding' is not a natural collocation; 'worrying about the costs' would be more precise. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, incorporating more sophisticated or precise collocations would help elevate your score to the next level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors. For instance, 'either to sports team or on an open-air concerts' contains incorrect preposition usage and article errors. Additionally, 'it will reduce the depression' is slightly unnatural; 'reduce stress' or 'alleviate feelings of depression' would be better. There are also minor issues with pluralization and article usage throughout the text. Despite these errors, they do not impede communication, and you demonstrate a reasonable control of basic sentence forms.
