Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to express my views about an ideal way for you to should spend your money.
If you will sponsor the local children's sport team, they will be able to learn about different kinds of sports. And as we know that not everyone can afford to pay for taking a part in sports team because of the financial problems, because of your help, that would not be the problem for 2 years.
Nowadays, kids listen music only on either phones or laptop, as concert tickers are very expensive. But if your company will be paying for their fees, they will have their once in a life moment. They will be forever grateful to your company.
Although both of the ideas are great, I believe that you should spend money on sponsoring sports team. Because, I think that not everyone is great at studies ,so If they would be introduced to sports, some of them might find it as a career opportunity for future.
I hope you take my suggestions into consideration and help to sponsor sports team.
Yours faithfully,
Rishi

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You have described the benefits of the sports team, summarized the benefits of the concerts, and clearly stated your preference. The ideas are relevant and the tone is appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the explanation of why sports might be a career opportunity is a bit brief. To reach a higher band, try to expand on your reasoning with more specific details or examples to fully develop your arguments.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices like 'Although', 'Nowadays', and 'Because'. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'because' to start sentences. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'that would not be the problem', where the antecedent is slightly ambiguous. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'financial problems', 'career opportunity', and 'take into consideration'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'listen music' (should be 'listen to music') and 'taking a part in' (should be 'taking part in'). The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. Focusing on learning common collocations and more sophisticated synonyms will help you improve your score in this area.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'way for you to should spend' (redundant modal), 'If you will sponsor' (incorrect conditional tense), and 'If they would be introduced' (incorrect conditional structure). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they indicate a lack of control over complex grammatical forms. To improve, focus on mastering the correct usage of conditional sentences and avoiding redundant word combinations.
