Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Manager,
I am writing to appreciate your interest in spending a significant amount of money for betterment of the local community, and give my feedback regarding this amount, whether to spend this to sponsor our local Grace Children's Sports team for approximately two years or to organise two open-air events.
Firstly, I would describe the beneficial impacts of this immense amount on the young individuals in the form of supporting them to foster participation in the team sports. I believe this would have a sustainable consequences by encouraging them to take part in local community competitions, which would eventually have physical and intellectual benefits. Therefore, this will also provide them a platform to compete not just national level, but also on international platforms. In addition to that, the physical positive effects would substantial, such as reducing chronic disease like cardiovascular ailments.
On the other hand, organising two local events will have short term benefits. For instance, these events would increase visitors from neighbouring communities, which would boost local businesses. Furthermore, it would also provide an opportunity for local community to further strong their community boundings, and settle down their dispute.
Overall, I suggest former perspective would have a long term beneficial outcomes than just arranging

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points of the prompt, providing benefits for both options and a clear recommendation. The ideas are relevant and logically developed. However, the letter ends abruptly mid-sentence ('...arranging'), which means the final conclusion is incomplete. This prevents the response from fully developing the final point. To improve, ensure you complete your sentences and provide a full closing statement. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter, and the purpose is clear from the outset.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'In addition to that', and 'On the other hand' to link your ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing, such as 'I would describe the beneficial impacts... in the form of supporting them'. Additionally, the abrupt ending significantly impacts the coherence of the final paragraph. Using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring your sentences are complete would improve the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary, using terms like 'sustainable consequences', 'chronic disease', and 'cardiovascular ailments'. There are some minor collocation errors, such as 'further strong their community boundings' (should be 'strengthen their community bonds') and 'former perspective' (which is slightly unnatural in this context). While you attempt to use more sophisticated language, some word choices are slightly imprecise. Focusing on natural collocations and ensuring words are used in the correct context will help you reach a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'give my feedback regarding this amount, whether to spend this' (missing 'on' or 'as to whether'), 'have a sustainable consequences' (should be 'have sustainable consequences'), and 'compete not just national level' (should be 'at a national level'). While these errors do not prevent communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall accuracy. You should focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions to improve your control.
