Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
This letter is in response to the feedback you requested from general public upon how you should spend the money either to sponsor a local children's sports team for a couple of years or to organize two open-air concerts.
Undoubtedly, there are several benefits of sponsoring sports team because it will not only provide young people with proper training but also motivates them in refining their skills at a young age which will facilitate them in the long run. Investing in sports will motivate children in engaging physical activities which will support their physical growth and skills such as team work and so on.
However, paying for open-air concerts also have plenty of positives. This event will bring the nearby communities together which will increase the business in local area. Moreover, this opportunity will give people to spend some quality time with their family and friends.
In my perspective, your company should spend on local children's sports team. Owing to the fact that today's children are tomorrow's future, they can shape their carers using this opportunity.
I hope you consider my feedback and spend on something which will give better results in future.
Yours faithfully,
Suman

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly describe the benefits of the sports sponsorship and the concerts, and you provide a definite recommendation for the company to support the sports team. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are more fully developed. For instance, when discussing the concerts, you mention 'increasing business in the local area' but do not explain how this occurs. Expanding on these points with specific examples or logical consequences would demonstrate a more thorough development of ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each option, and a concluding recommendation. You use cohesive devices such as 'Undoubtedly', 'However', and 'Moreover' to link your ideas effectively. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different aspects of the task. To improve, ensure that referencing is always precise; for example, in the second paragraph, 'sponsoring sports team' is missing an article ('a' or 'the'). Overall, the flow of information is smooth and easy to follow throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'facilitate', 'refining', and 'perspective'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, you write 'shape their carers' when you likely meant 'careers', and 'spend on local children's sports team' should be 'spend money on the local children's sports team'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise vocabulary control. Expanding your range to include more sophisticated collocations would help elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as the conditional-like structure in the final paragraph. There are several grammatical slips, such as 'paying for open-air concerts also have plenty of positives' (should be 'has') and 'feedback you requested from general public' (should be 'the general public'). Additionally, 'today's children are tomorrow's future' is a slight tautology. While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. Increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences will help you achieve a higher band.
