Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
This letter is in response to the request of feedback from the general public regarding how your company should spend money either on a local children's sports team or paying for two open-air concerts.
Undoubtedly, sponsoring a local children's team for two years can bring significant benefits to them. This will not only encourage young people to engage in physical activities but also to learn valuable skills such as teamwork, cooperation, leadership qualities and so on.
On the other hand, organizing open-air concerts can provide several opportunities for the locals. These events can be enjoyed by people of all ages. Moreover, nearby communities will visit the place resulting in improved local businesses for that period. Although these events do not have long-term benefits, families and friends can enjoy together without financial stress.
In my opinion, your company should sponsor a local children's sports team for two years. This will serve them with excellence and learning valuable skills at young age will support their career in sports. Unlike concerts, they can be enjoyed by public but will not benefit the community for the future development.
I hope you take my feedback into consideration. I believe you will make a wiser decision which will support the future of juveniles.
Yours faithfully,
Suman

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points in the prompt. You have clearly described the benefits of the sports team, summarized the advantages of the concerts, and provided a clear recommendation for the company. Your position is consistent throughout the letter. The ideas are relevant and well-supported, particularly in the second and third paragraphs. To reach a higher band, you could provide slightly more specific detail regarding the 'long-term benefits' of the sports team to further strengthen your argument, but overall, the task requirements are fully met with a clear and logical development of ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each option, and a concluding recommendation. You use a variety of cohesive devices effectively, such as 'Undoubtedly,' 'On the other hand,' 'Moreover,' and 'Although.' The paragraphing is appropriate, with each paragraph focusing on a distinct aspect of the task. The progression of ideas is smooth, and the relationship between the paragraphs is clear. The use of referencing is generally accurate, ensuring that the reader can easily follow your argument from the initial request to your final suggestion.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your ideas with precision. Phrases such as 'engage in physical activities,' 'valuable skills,' and 'financial stress' are used appropriately. There is an attempt to use less common vocabulary, though some word choices could be more natural. For instance, 'serve them with excellence' is slightly awkward in this context. Additionally, the term 'juveniles' is a bit formal and perhaps slightly clinical for a letter to a company; 'young people' or 'the youth' would be more natural. Overall, the vocabulary is adequate for the task and does not impede communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. Most of your sentences are error-free, and your control of grammar is generally strong. There are a few minor slips, such as 'learning valuable skills at young age' (missing an article: 'at a young age') and 'can be enjoyed by public' (missing an article: 'by the public'). However, these errors are infrequent and do not interfere with the clarity of your message. Your punctuation is accurate, and the tone of the letter is appropriate for a formal request.
