Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to give my feedback to TMC company who decided to spend money in my area, either to sponsor a local children's sport team for two years, or to pay foe two open- air concerts.
To begin with, I am really with the decision of TMC company to spend money in development of my area. However, there are number of benefits of sponsoring the sports team for children. These kinds of activity encourage the children to develop their career in the sports. Children who find the financial difficulties to take part in sport may feel helpful by this type of funding. Moreover, grounds can be maintained by this money.
On the other hand, paying for the concerts is also not bad idea. In addition, many people are interested in the musical concerts. So can enjoy the music concerts.
In my point of view, company should spend money on children rather than spending on concerts. Because the concerts could be the fun for a couple of hours but children development will remain for a life. So it is better to spend on their development.
It would be a pleasure to hear from you.
Yours faithfully,
Khushi Patel.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly describe the benefits of the sports team and the concerts, and you provide a clear recommendation. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, when discussing the concerts, you state 'many people are interested' but do not elaborate on why this would benefit the community. Similarly, the argument for the sports team could be strengthened by explaining how it fosters community spirit or long-term health. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with specific reasons or examples.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, and the progression of ideas is generally clear. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'However', and 'On the other hand' to link your thoughts. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'So can enjoy the music concerts', which lacks a clear subject. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect your arguments more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your message clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'funding', 'maintained', and 'development'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'really with the decision' (should be 'really pleased with') and 'not bad idea' (which is quite informal). To improve, try to incorporate more precise vocabulary and idiomatic expressions suitable for a formal letter, and pay closer attention to common collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'pay foe' (spelling), 'number of benefits' (missing 'a'), 'find the financial difficulties' (incorrect phrasing), and 'children development' (should be 'children's development'). These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your point. To achieve a higher score, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and refining your control over complex sentence structures.
