Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

I hope this letter finds you well. I got to know about the decision your company have made about spending some money for two of the good causes. I would like to give my feedback as a local public on that.

Firstly, I am going to talk about the pros of sponsoring the sports team. By sponsoring a sports team, they will have a good amount of money to get new sports tools and that would help them practice with them. It will also motivate players to learn that sports, as they believe that the sponsor will help them through their journey.

Secondly, there are certain merits of doing payment for the concerts. This kind of charity help people to get along together which will help people to take time and get social with various kind people from different cultures. Furthermore, people will love to enjoy their time in concerts by listening or watching their favorite artist which will ultimately make them happy.

In my opinion, there are more ways in which company can spend their money. They can spend money by paying certain amount of fees of poor children. This will help children get better education. Additionally, the company can also the food and cloth donation in some village areas as they are not having enough facilities to get them.

Thank you for considering general public to give their feedback.

Yours Truly,

Dhruti Panchal

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all parts of the prompt, including describing the benefits of the sports team, the concerts, and providing a recommendation. However, your recommendation deviates from the task instructions. The prompt asks you to choose between the two options provided (sports team or concerts), but you suggest entirely new alternatives, such as paying school fees or donating food. This indicates a misunderstanding of the task constraints. To improve, ensure your recommendation is strictly limited to the choices offered by the company. The ideas provided for the sports team and concerts are relevant but could be developed with more specific detail to fully meet the requirements of a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized with clear paragraphing, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Furthermore' to transition between ideas. However, the flow is sometimes mechanical, and the connection between sentences could be more sophisticated. For instance, the transition to your final paragraph is abrupt because the recommendation introduces new ideas not mentioned in the prompt. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that your concluding paragraph directly addresses the choice requested in the prompt rather than introducing unrelated suggestions.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message, but it is somewhat repetitive and lacks precision. Phrases like 'get social' and 'sports tools' are slightly unnatural in this context. You rely on simple descriptors such as 'good' and 'happy'. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise collocations and less common vocabulary. For example, instead of 'get social', you could use 'foster social cohesion' or 'interact with others'. Expanding your range of synonyms and focusing on more formal, academic-style vocabulary will significantly enhance the quality of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'decision your company have made' (should be 'has made'), 'get social with various kind people' (should be 'various kinds of people'), and 'the company can also the food' (missing verb). These errors do not impede communication, but they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and ensure that all sentences contain a clear verb. Proofreading your work for these small but frequent slips will help improve your accuracy.
