Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to give my opinion regarding your sponsorship for local children's sports team or to play for open air concert.
First of all, I am so happy to hear that you are spending some money for community and I am so thankful to you for thinking about the society. According to me, you shoud spend those money for local children's sports team. As you know that children are the future of the society. It will help them to buy some advanced equipments. By spending money on them would be helpful to encourage children to participate in sports. As a result, it also helps to keep them physically active.
On the otherhand, spending on money on concert would be great for the residents too. It helps people to enjoy musics and they can get relax after having exhusted routine life. However, spending money on sports have long term benefits in terms of physical health of child.
I hope you will consider my point of view and make a decision accordingly.
Yours Sincerely,
Dharavi Rathod

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: describing the benefits of the sports team, summarizing the benefits of the concerts, and stating a clear preference. The position is consistent throughout the letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the benefits of the sports team are mentioned as 'buy some advanced equipments' and 'physically active', which could be expanded with more specific examples or deeper reasoning to reach a higher band. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter, and all parts of the task are covered sufficiently.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each option, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'As a result', 'On the other hand', and 'However' are used to link ideas. While the progression is generally logical, the use of some cohesive devices is slightly mechanical. Referencing is generally clear, though the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to create a more natural, sophisticated transition between the two options presented.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are some awkward collocations and minor errors, such as 'play for open air concert' (should be 'pay for an open-air concert') and 'exhusted routine life'. The range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey the message clearly, but it does not demonstrate the flexibility or the use of less common lexical items required for higher bands. Improving word choice, such as using 'subsidize' instead of 'spend money on', would enhance the quality of the writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'spending some money for community' (should be 'on the community'), 'you shoud spend those money' (should be 'this money'), and 'spending money on sports have long term benefits' (subject-verb agreement error). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and ensuring that complex sentence structures are punctuated and formed accurately.
