Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to express the feedback from the local people regarding the sponsorship and would like to explain the situation.
Firstly, there are significant pros of funding the sports team. The sponsorship will help the sports club to arrange the advanced technological equipments and maintaining the diet for sportsmen. This will impact the overall performance of the players, and keep them motivated to enhance their games.
However, concerts also plays a vital role in the society. It helps the local municipality financially as people buy tickets to see their favourite celebrities. In addition to this, vendors also advertise their products, which helps the overall economy.
I believe both have their own importance, so company should invest in spend equal money. Because funding the sports team will help the children’s career, whereas concerts will boost the local economy.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Kind regards,
Sukh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly describe the benefits of the sports team sponsorship, such as equipment and nutrition, and the benefits of the concerts, such as economic growth. Your position is stated clearly in the final paragraph. However, the development of ideas is somewhat brief. For instance, the suggestion to 'spend equal money' is a bit vague given the prompt asks you to choose between two options. To reach a higher band, ensure your arguments are more fully extended and provide a more decisive recommendation based on the company's constraints.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each requirement, and a conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'However', and 'In addition to this' to link your ideas. While the paragraphing is appropriate, the flow between sentences could be more sophisticated. At times, the transition between the benefits of the concerts and the final recommendation feels slightly abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would enhance the overall cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'sponsorship', 'municipality', and 'consideration'. There are some minor errors in word choice, such as 'technological equipments' (equipment is uncountable) and 'spend equal money' (which is grammatically awkward). You attempt to use less common vocabulary, but some collocations are slightly unnatural. To improve, focus on using uncountable nouns correctly and refining your phrasing to sound more natural in a formal business context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'concerts also plays' (subject-verb agreement) and 'company should invest in spend' (incorrect verb form). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and the correct use of infinitives and gerunds after prepositions. Increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences will help you move into the higher bands.
