Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to share my feedback for which agenda should be financially supported.
To begin with, funding a local sport team can be benignant as it can help the players to buy appropriate equipment and shoes. Money invested on sports team will improve the performance of the players as a result they will achieve better and will attract their fan base.
However, open air concerts will attract artist with great skills and talent. They can perform in front of a massive audience which can benefit them in getting famous. This investment can generate more funds in the future.
In my opinion, spending money on sport team will be a wise decision, as sport team will represent the community on a larger stage. They may compete with other teams and winning them will be a great achievement for all of us. To add on, sports bring people together it can also encourage others to learn the skills.
I hope you consider my feedback.
Yours faithfully,
Peter Seng

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: describing the benefits of the sports team, the benefits of the concerts, and providing a clear recommendation. The ideas are relevant and the position is consistent throughout the letter. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the benefits of the sports team could be expanded with more specific examples of community impact, and the concert section is quite brief. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with more depth and detail rather than just stating the benefits in general terms.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each point, and a conclusion. You have used some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'However', and 'In my opinion' to guide the reader. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally a bit mechanical. Some transitions feel slightly repetitive, and the connection between ideas could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately, which helps the overall structure. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the progression of ideas within paragraphs feels more natural and less like a list of points.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your meaning clearly. There are some attempts at using more precise language, such as 'financially supported' and 'massive audience'. However, there are some word choice errors, such as using 'benignant' (which is archaic and not appropriate here) instead of 'beneficial', and 'winning them' which is slightly unnatural collocation. The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but to achieve a higher score, you should focus on using more natural collocations and avoiding misused words. Expanding your range of topic-specific vocabulary would also be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical slips throughout the text. For example, 'share my feedback for which agenda should be' is slightly awkward, and 'Money invested on sports team' lacks an article. Additionally, 'winning them' should be 'beating them' or 'winning against them'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement, article usage, and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed with greater precision.
