Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir,

The purpose of my writing today is to share my thoughts regarding your sponsorship programme in our area about sponsoring a children's sports team for two years which I think is a great idea compared to the other idea of paying for two open-air concerts.

To start with the benifits about sponsoring a childrens sport team for two years, Firstly, It will help a child to become strong both mentally and physically as an individual. Secondly, this sponsorship will help the children to gain knowledge in chosing thir career and stay more focused in longterm.

Most of the schools and colleges these days are encouraging the children to focus on the growing technology and educating them using virtual reality were children are becoming addicted more in playing virtual games which is convinient for them.

Where as paying for two open-air concerts has a only benefit that your company will get a recognisation among others but maynot be consistant and feasable beacause people only remembers the concert but not the sponsor.

Therefore, In my opinion sponsoring a childrens sports team for two years will have a mutual a benefits for you company and the children.

Thank you for your time and have a good week.

Regards,

Mike.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response successfully covers all the required bullet points of the task. The writer describes the benefits of sponsoring the sports team, such as building mental and physical strength and helping children stay focused long-term. The benefits of the open-air concerts are also summarised, noting that while they provide temporary recognition for the company, they lack consistency and feasibility. Finally, the writer clearly states a personal preference regarding how the money should be spent. The tone is appropriate for a general task, and the main ideas are extended and supported, fitting the Band 7 level well.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. The writer uses standard introductory and concluding conventions and employs cohesive devices such as 'To start with', 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Where as' to guide the reader through the arguments, although some referencing and punctuation are a bit mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different points, moving from the sports team benefits to the concerts and finally the recommendation. Overall, the structure is coherent and easy to follow, aligning closely with the Band 6.5 to 7 descriptors.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate and generally appropriate for the task. The writer attempts some less common phrases, such as 'sponsorship programme', 'mutual benefits', and 'virtual reality', showing an ability to discuss relevant themes. However, there are several spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'benifits' instead of benefits, 'chosing' instead of choosing, 'thir' instead of their, 'recognisation' instead of recognition, and 'feasable' instead of feasible. While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the lexical score from reaching higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt to construct longer, multi-clause sentences. However, there are several grammatical errors and punctuation lapses, such as run-on sentences ('To start with the benifits about sponsoring a childrens sport team for two years, Firstly, It will help...'), incorrect capitalization after commas, and minor prepositional errors ('benifits about' instead of 'benefits of'). Despite these recurring errors in accuracy, the meaning remains clear throughout, and communication is not impeded.
