Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to response to your request for public feedback regarding how company should spend the money available for supporting our local community, Either sport team for two years or open-air concert in our area.
To begin with the first option sport team sponsorship for local children. Although this team has been organizing their sports instruments in their own way, it is really difficult for them at present to bear the daily expanses. Therefore, I would like to suggest sponsoring this team for the next two year and this is because children will be motivated to be good sports person in the future.
Secondly, there are not enough places for recreation in this area which is why sometimes people living in this area ask for open-air concert, especially during the winter season.
In my perspective, I would like to suggest investing the money in sport team as it will help the children to make dream true for a long time.
I look forward to hearing from your decision.
Your faithfully,
Krupa Maisuria

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The candidate addresses all parts of the task prompt, successfully covering the three bullet points outlined in the instructions. First, the writer describes the benefits of sponsoring the local children's sports team, noting that it helps them bear daily expenses and motivates children to become good sports persons. Second, a summary of the benefits of paying for the open-air concerts is provided, mentioning that they offer recreation during the winter season in an area lacking such facilities. Finally, the writer clearly states a personal preference for how the money should be spent by recommending the sports team sponsorship. The position is maintained throughout the letter, and the ideas are relevant, though some points like the concert benefits are slightly under-developed. Overall, the task is fulfilled adequately for a Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear, standard opening and closing. Paragraphing is utilised to separate the introduction, body points covering the two options, the final recommendation, and the sign-off. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty. For instance, transitional phrases such as 'To begin with the first option sport team sponsorship' and 'Secondly, there are not enough places' feel a bit abrupt. Referencing is also slightly unclear in places, such as 'how company should spend the money', which lacks an article. Despite these minor issues, the logical flow is easy to follow, supporting a Band 6.0 score.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'sponsorship', 'recreation', and 'investing'. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation inaccuracies throughout the text. Examples include 'to response' instead of 'to respond', 'sports instruments' instead of 'sports equipment', 'expanses' instead of 'expenses', and 'hear of your decision' instead of 'hear about your decision'. While these lexical errors occur, they do not impede overall communication, placing the response firmly at a Band 5.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety. However, there are frequent grammatical errors and omissions of articles. Notable errors include missing articles ('how company should spend the money', 'sport team sponsorship'), preposition errors ('in sport team' instead of 'on the sports team'), and subject-verb or pluralisation issues ('two year' instead of 'two years'). Additionally, sentences like 'this is because children will be motivated' are somewhat repetitive. Although errors are frequent, they rarely impede communication, aligning with the Band 5.5 descriptors.
