Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this to share my view point on how your company should spend money that it allocating to sponsor a local children's sports team for two years or to pay for two open- air concerts.

On the one hand, if the company spend money on sponsoring the sports team then it will encourage younger generation to do physical activities. Not only it will help them to become active and fit but it also teaches them qualities like teamwork, discipline and leadership.

On the other hand, organizing two open-air concerts will contributes towards city to get more visitors from other cities, which ultimately increases small bussiness like restaurants and cafe. Moreover, it will give an oppotunity to local artists and musicians to showcast their talent and build confidence.

In my opinion, Rather then spending whole money for just two open-air concerts for next two year, I think sponsoring for sports team for continuous next two years is more beneficial as it will help children's to become physically fit and teach them responsibilities.

I hope company will make vise decision.

Your's faithfully,

Harman

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have successfully addressed all parts of the prompt. In your letter, you clearly described the benefits of sponsoring the local children's sports team, such as encouraging physical activity and teaching teamwork. You also effectively summarised the benefits of the open-air concerts, noting how they can attract visitors and boost small businesses like restaurants and cafes, as well as providing a platform for local artists. Finally, you clearly stated your recommendation that the company should choose the sports team sponsorship. Your position is maintained consistently throughout the letter. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, demonstrating a good understanding of the task requirements for a general training letter.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

Your letter has a clear logical organization and progression throughout. You start with an appropriate opening salutation, follow a clear paragraph structure for each point requested in the prompt, and end with a suitable closing formula ('Your's faithfully, Harman'). You make good use of cohesive devices to structure your arguments, such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'Moreover'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate each main idea, making the letter very easy to follow. The relationship between your ideas is clear, and the progression from introduction to body paragraphs and conclusion is smooth.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate to sufficient range of vocabulary for this task. You have used some less common and topic-specific vocabulary such as 'physical activities', 'leadership', 'local artists', and 'responsibilities'. However, there are some noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the response, such as writing 'view point' instead of 'viewpoint', 'contributes towards city to get' instead of 'contributes to the city attracting', 'bussiness' instead of 'business', 'oppotunity' instead of 'opportunity', 'showcast' instead of 'showcase', and 'vise' instead of 'wise'. Despite these errors, your meaning is generally clear and does not impede communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures like 'if the company spend money on sponsoring the sports team then it will encourage...'. However, there are several grammatical and punctuation errors present in the text. For instance, 'if the company spend' should be 'if the company spends', 'Not only it will help' requires inversion ('Not only will it help'), 'help children's to become' should be 'help children become', and 'Your's faithfully' should be written without the apostrophe ('Yours faithfully'). While these errors occur frequently enough to prevent a higher band, they are non-systematic and do not seriously impede overall communication.
