Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to express my gratitude towards you for considering that you will spend a certain sum of money to sponsor the local children's sports team for two years or pay for two open-air concerts.
Firstly, I would like to iterate the benefits of sponsoring a sports team. You will get a mass exposure as there are lots of people who are interested in this sports, either as a competitor or as a viewer. Sponsoring such events may lead you to the potential prospects for your business.
On the other hand, paying for the concerts has its own perks. You will emerge as the brand and ultimately this can pave the way for you to become a business tycoon or an unicorn. Moreover, if the concerts prove to be successful, it will attract more eyes towards your company.
Finally, I suggest that you should sponsor the local sports team for two years. This will help the members of the local sports team. They struggle hard to make it to the tournament without any apt resources or medium. You can definitely make a lot of money through this sponsorship in later stages.
I hope you will consider my suggestion and looking forward to hear form you.
Regards,
Gaurav

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You successfully covered all parts of the prompt in your letter. You began by describing the benefits of sponsoring the local children's sports team, such as gaining mass exposure and potential business prospects. Next, you summarised the benefits of paying for the concerts, noting that it can help the company emerge as a brand and attract more attention. Finally, you clearly stated your personal recommendation that the company should sponsor the sports team for two years, supporting your choice with logical reasons regarding the struggles of the team members. Your tone is appropriate for a formal business letter, and all bullet points from the instructions are thoroughly addressed. Therefore, your task achievement is strong and meets the criteria for a high band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
Your letter shows a clear overall progression and logical organisation. You used paragraphing effectively, giving each bullet point its own clearly defined paragraph. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'On the other hand', and 'Finally' were employed to structure your arguments clearly and guide the reader smoothly through the text. However, there are some minor mechanical limitations in referencing and linking, such as the awkward transition in the final paragraph where you mention 'the members of the local sports team' immediately followed by 'They struggle hard', which could be integrated more fluidly. Overall, the layout and logical flow are well-managed and easily followable throughout.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You attempted a varied vocabulary range with ambitious terms such as 'mass exposure', 'business tycoon', 'unicorn', and 'apt resources'. While some collocations and word choices are slightly unnatural or inflated for a standard business feedback letter—for instance, aspiring to become a 'unicorn' or a 'business tycoon' in the context of sponsoring a local children's team—your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly. There are occasional inaccuracies in word choice and phrasing, such as 'looking forward to hear form you' (instead of 'hearing from you'), but these do not impede communication. With more precise and natural phrasing, your lexical score would be even higher.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You demonstrated a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including conditional clauses like 'Moreover, if the concerts prove to be successful, it will attract more eyes towards your company.' There is good control over basic grammar, and most of your sentences are comprehensible. However, you made a few grammatical errors and awkward expressions, such as 'considering that you will spend' instead of 'considering spending' and 'looking forward to hear form you' containing a typo and a tense error. Despite these minor lapses, your grammatical range is adequate to communicate your message effectively without causing severe difficulty for the reader.
