Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the prompt outlined in the instructions. You successfully described the benefits of sponsoring the sports team, such as children getting opportunities to improve their passion in sports and remaining healthy. You also summarised the benefits of paying for concerts, noting that people can enjoy live performances and meet celebrities. Finally, you provided a personal opinion on how the company should spend the money, concluding that the decision to support sports is good for society. However, the tone and salutation present minor issues as you addressed the letter to 'Dear Mr. Smith' despite the prompt requiring 'Dear Sir or Madam'. Additionally, some ideas like transport facilities and job creation are slightly underdeveloped and tangential regarding concerts. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, earning a Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The letter exhibits a coherent overall arrangement, with a clear attempt to structure the response into logical paragraphs covering introduction, team benefits, concert benefits, and a concluding recommendation. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. For instance, the transition between ideas within paragraphs can be abrupt, and cohesive devices are limited or misused in places. Paragraphing is present, but grouping sentences requires better signposting to ensure smooth progression. Referencing and linking are occasionally unclear, such as the sudden shift to unemployment issues in the final body paragraph. These features place the response firmly at Band 5.5 for coherence and cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
Your lexical resource is limited and adequate for the task, but contains noticeable errors that occasionally impede communication. You attempted some less common vocabulary such as 'plethora of benefits' and 'productivity', but there are numerous spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'aboout', 'foodball', 'tanis', 'heathing', 'feverite', 'selebrity', and 'unempoyment'. While the meaning can mostly be deciphered, these frequent inaccuracies prevent the vocabulary from reaching a higher band level. To improve, you should focus on basic spelling accuracy and precision in word choice.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'your company decided' instead of 'your company's decision' or 'that your company has decided', 'children geting' with missing auxiliary verbs, and run-on sentences like 'paying money on concerts have plethora of benefits people can enjoy in live'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma splices connecting independent clauses. These errors cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a performance typical of Band 5.0.
