Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this letter regarding getting people's opinion about spending company's budget either on sponsership for children's sport team or two open-air concerts.

Firstly, if multinational corporation will pay for local sports team, it would be very beneficial for their guardian because some of the families are not willing to purchase expensive sports equipments. Which will encourage children to work hard and give their best. Secondly, with the help of funds they can get a chance to play at higher levels.

As regards to pay for the concerts, everone can enjoy live music and entertain themselfs without any charge and get some relief from their stress. Moreover, they can get the opportunity to meet the celebrities as well as becoming more sociable.

According to me, it would be benefecial for the company to do expenditure for both. With the help of company's money sports person develop their skills according to their goals and local people meet their ideal persons in front of them.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response successfully covers all bullet points required by the task prompt. You clearly described the benefits of sponsoring the local sports team, noting how it relieves financial pressure on guardians regarding expensive sports equipment and helps children play at higher levels. Furthermore, you summarised the benefits of the concerts, highlighting how people can enjoy live music without charge and find relief from stress. Finally, you provided a clear personal recommendation regarding how the company should spend the money. While some ideas could be slightly more fully extended and developed to reach the highest bands, all parts of the task are adequately addressed, earning a solid Band 6.5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter maintains a clear overall arrangement and follows a logical progression from introduction to body paragraphs and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, with transition markers like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Moreover' helping to guide the reader through your arguments. However, cohesion is at times a bit mechanical, and referencing is occasionally faulty, such as the dangling relative clause starting with 'Which will encourage children...' which lacks a clear antecedent. Despite these minor issues, the logical organisation is clear and easy to follow throughout.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'multinational corporation', 'sociable', and 'celebrities'. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation inaccuracies throughout the text, such as 'sponsership' (spelling error), 'guardian' instead of parents/families, 'As regards to pay' instead of 'As regards paying', and 'do expenditure' instead of 'spend money' or 'make an expenditure'. These vocabulary errors do not impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score to a Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

Your response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating a reasonable attempt at subordination and conditional structures like 'if multinational corporation will pay...'. However, there are several grammatical errors and awkward phrasing issues, including tense inconsistencies ('will pay' instead of 'pays'), missing articles ('getting people's opinion', 'on sponsership'), and minor punctuation or pluralisation slips like 'entertain themselfs'. While these errors occasionally cause minor hesitation for the reader, they rarely impede overall communication, placing your writing comfortably at a Band 6.0.
