Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope you are doing well. I am Kushagra Shinde a local resident to peretburg area in which your company has planned for a donation drive. I am writting this letter to share my suggestions towards the noble thought of charity.
Playing sports is an important part of growth in children, on one hand we have children's sports team which will be able to develop their skillset, resulting in raising a bar to their performance in upcoming tournaments. Some of the chidlren might actually choose sports as their long time carier in life.
While on other hand their are concerts which contributes to people being more socially active. a lot of people who might have not experienced music concerts due to their other financial commitments, will be able to feel the vibe of concerts coming out of their daily life struggles.
I strongly recommend offering a sponsership to sports team as it will be a contribution towards growth of children, and will be a valuable donation. I hope you will take my suggestion into consideration.
Yours faithfully,
Kushagra Shinde

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task prompt successfully. You begin by introducing yourself and stating the purpose of the letter, then effectively describe the benefits of sponsoring the sports team, such as skillset development and raising performance levels in tournaments. You also successfully summarise the benefits of paying for concerts, noting how they help people become socially active and escape daily life struggles. Finally, you clearly state your recommendation that the company should sponsor the sports team. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a company, and the ideas are relevant and sufficiently developed to meet the requirements of General Training Task 1. Therefore, this response earns a solid band score for task achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is generally coherent and follows a logical structure appropriate for a formal correspondence, moving from an introduction to body paragraphs discussing each option, and concluding with a clear recommendation. Paragraphing is used adequately to separate distinct ideas, such as the sports team benefits versus the concert benefits. However, cohesion is occasionally faulty or mechanical, as seen in run-on clauses or comma splices (e.g., 'Playing sports is an important part of growth in children, on one hand we have...'). Referencing and cohesive devices are basic but functional. Overall arrangement is clear enough for the reader to follow easily, placing it firmly at the six level.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The lexical resource displayed is adequate for the task. You attempt some less common vocabulary items and phrases, such as 'noble thought of charity', 'skillset', and 'financial commitments'. However, there are several noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'peretburg' (Petersburg), 'writting' (writing), 'carier' (career), 'chidlren' (children), 'their' instead of 'there' ('their are concerts'), and 'sponsership' (sponsorship). While these errors do not severely impede communication and the meaning remains clear, they prevent the lexical score from reaching higher bands due to inaccuracies in spelling and collocation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt to use relative clauses and conditional structures. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are several punctuation and structural issues, notably comma splices where independent clauses are incorrectly joined by commas rather than full stops or conjunctions (e.g., 'Some of the chidlren might actually choose sports as their long time carier in life, While on other hand...'). Articles and prepositions are also occasionally misused, such as 'raising a bar to their performance' instead of 'raising the bar'. Despite these recurring errors, the sentences remain largely understandable, allowing the writing to secure a band 6.0.
