Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing this letter to give my feedback on where to spend money. First of all thank you for taking perspectives of people in this matter. Sponsoring sports team for children is good idea as it's advantageous for their health and career. Engaging children in sports are inmortant nowadays because of asscesive use of phones, they forget how to use physical body and enjoy playing games.

Similary, the thought of arranging two open-air concerts sound fun to me. Concerts can bring so much fun and relaxation to area people. Generally, I spend money for movies and gamezones for my entertainment, instead of that I am getting something more bigger than that and with my local people so this is more beneficial to me.

Both of the idea of spending good amount of money seems good to me but when I am thinking in terms of more effective way than sponsoring children's sports team is better than paying for concerts, since sports can help childs to learn more in their life instead of concerts which going to spred noise polution.

I hope my suggetion helps you to make fair decision.

Your thankful,

Yuvraj

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You successfully covered all three bullet points required in the task instructions. You described the benefits of sponsoring the sports team, such as health and career advantages for children, and summarized the benefits of the open-air concerts, noting how they bring fun and relaxation to the local community. Additionally, you clearly stated your personal preference on how the company should spend the money by choosing the sports team over the concerts. Your position is consistent throughout the letter, and your ideas are relevant and generally well-developed. While some supporting points could be slightly more extended to reach a higher band, you fully addressed the prompt requirements, earning a solid Band 6.5.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

Your letter is coherent with a clear overall arrangement and logical paragraphing. You used appropriate introductory and concluding conventions suitable for a formal letter. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or basic, such as 'First of all', 'Similary' (which contains a spelling error), and 'Both of the idea'. Paragraphing is handled reasonably well, but the transition between ideas could be smoother. Referencing is mostly clear, but occasional minor slips in cohesion prevent the text from achieving a higher score. Overall, your organizational skills demonstrate adequate control matching a Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You used an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items and expressing your opinions clearly. However, there are several noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout your writing, such as 'inmortant', 'asscesive' (excessive), 'Similary' (similarly), 'spred' (spread), 'polution' (pollution), and 'suggetion' (suggestion). Additionally, phrases like 'something more bigger than that' contain grammatical and lexical inaccuracies. Despite these errors, communication is not impeded, and your vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey your message, placing your lexical performance at a Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

Your response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'Sponsoring sports team for children is good idea as it's advantageous for their health and career.' However, your writing contains frequent grammatical errors, including missing articles (e.g., 'is good idea', 'to area people'), subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'Both of the idea... seems', 'concerts which going to'), and preposition misuse. These errors do not entirely impede communication, but they are noticeable and persistent throughout the text. This control of grammar and punctuation aligns with the Band 5.5 descriptors.
