Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the main bullet points of the task by discussing the benefits of sponsoring the sports team and suggesting how the money should be spent. However, a major omission is that the student completely fails to summarise the benefits of paying for the open-air concerts, which is a required part of the prompt. The salutation is also addressed to a specific person ('Dear Mr. Mohan Kumar') instead of the requested 'Dear Sir or Madam' or a general public format. Ideas regarding the sports team are relevant, mentioning financial aid for equipment and district-level success, but overall development is limited and incomplete due to missing the second option entirely. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The letter lacks proper paragraphing, as most ideas are lumped together into a single block of text or broken abruptly. Cohesive devices are minimal and sometimes inaccurate, such as using 'Morever' with a spelling error and a sudden 'or second option is' transition. While there is a discernible logical progression in discussing the sports team's needs and funding methods, the overall arrangement is quite faulty and mechanical. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the lack of a proper closing formula (writing 'yours faithfully.' with a lowercase letter and missing name) further detracts from the organizational structure of a formal letter.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate to communicate basic ideas, but it is marred by numerous spelling mistakes and awkward word choices, such as 'spoonsoring', 'facilitates financial aid', 'games equipments', and 'priveleged'. There are also grammatical word form errors like 'cannot offered buy themselves' instead of 'cannot afford to buy them themselves'. The range is limited, and although the student attempts some less common terms like 'district level' and 'quarterly in installments', the high frequency of lexical and spelling errors impedes smooth reading and prevents the score from reaching a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but grammatical accuracy is consistently weak. There are frequent errors in verb forms, articles, and sentence construction, such as 'i am writing' (capitalization error), 'if tge players facilitates', 'they won the competition' (tense inconsistency with the context of recurring events), and punctuation errors like starting sentences with lowercase letters. Complex sentences are often faulty, and prepositional usage is problematic. Although meaning can generally be extracted, the high density of basic grammatical errors places this text firmly in the band 5 range.
