Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to provide my feedback regarding a donation your company would like to do for our local area. I firmly believe that helping children in sports would be much better choice.

There is a domestic cricket tournament going to be held during summer. I would appericiate it if you could sponsor our local children's team for that competition. That development will help them to buy standard equipments for the game. Also, they will feel highly motivated. As a result, it will open certain paths for other young cricketers of this area to choose this sport.

However, people from this town never experienced live concerts in our town. It would be amazing for them to feel and enjoy large live concerts. Also, people from different places will know more about us and our town because of these kinds of an open-air concert.

Although people would be much happier with concerts, I would like you to help children. Your donation can change their future in sports. In addition, if they would be able tp win the summer tounament then they will be able to represent an entire province which can encourage youngsters to take parts in sports.

I would like to hearing from you regarding my feedback. I hope to get a positive response. Thank you!

Yours faithfully,

Meet.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The student has successfully covered all bullet points of the task prompt. The letter begins appropriately with the requested salutation, describes the benefits of sponsoring the children's sports team (such as buying standard equipment and feeling motivated), summarises the benefits of the concerts (bringing live music to the town and attracting visitors), and clearly states the writer's preference for the sports sponsorship. The ideas are relevant and sufficiently extended, fulfilling the requirements for a General Training Task 1 letter. The tone is polite and appropriate throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter is logically organised with a clear beginning, middle, and end, following a standard paragraph structure where each paragraph addresses a specific part of the prompt. Cohesive devices such as 'Also', 'As a result', and 'However' are used to connect ideas, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive ('Also'). Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate the different aspects of the response, including the introduction, sports team, concerts, personal recommendation, and sign-off.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate their ideas clearly. There are attempts at less common phrasing such as 'firmly believe', 'domestic cricket tournament', and 'open certain paths'. However, there are several spelling and word choice errors, such as 'appericiate' instead of 'appreciate', 'equipments' (equipment is uncountable), and 'tounament' instead of 'tournament'. These errors do not impede communication, but they prevent the score from reaching a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The student demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as conditional clauses ('if they would be able to win...') and subordinate clauses. However, there are notable grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, including 'donation your company would like to do' (make a donation), 'tournament going to be held' (is going to be held), and 'I would like to hearing from you' (hearing should be 'hear'). While these errors occasionally distract the reader, the meaning remains clear throughout.
