Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am a resident of an area near beside your company and I feel proud to know that your company has decided to participate in a social activity for our area by the mean of spending decent amount for local children's sports team for two years or to pay for two open air concerts.
There would be plenty of benefits by sponsering a local children's sports team which can help the childrens to stay fit and active which will help them to grow in the sport and not limited to staying motivated to achieve their physical sport goal which will also result into proud moment for our society in future.
Furthermore, the pros of paying for the concert will benefit all the age groups where everyone will be able to gather and enjoy the open air concert. Cosequently, this event will be a stress buster for working employees and students from their hectic schedule.
I think, sponsoring for the children's sports team will be more beneficial for both society and country. The team can buy quality sports equipments that are essential for the players to play and win the game which can lead to a world record too. I am thankful to your company for this noble decision.
Yours sincerely,
Jack paul

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by describing the benefits of sponsoring the sports team, summarising the advantages of the concerts, and stating a clear personal preference for how the money should be spent. The ideas presented are relevant, covering health and community pride for the sports team alongside stress relief for the concerts. However, while the main points are present, some ideas are slightly under-developed or repetitive, such as the discussion around physical goals and equipment. The tone is appropriately polite for a formal letter to a company. Please note that the 15 words copied directly from the task prompt were not included in the official word count, but the response still comfortably exceeds the minimum requirement with its original content.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a logical progression of ideas from the introduction to the body paragraphs and conclusion. Each paragraph has a clear focus: the first outlines the background, the second covers the sports team, the third addresses the concerts, and the final paragraph delivers the recommendation. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Consequently', and 'I think' are used to connect ideas, though some referencing and transitions feel slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately to structure the response, ensuring the reader can easily follow the writer's line of reasoning throughout.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating key concepts about community engagement and events. There are noticeable attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'stress buster', 'hectic schedule', and 'noble decision'. However, precision is lacking in several places due to word choice and collocation issues, such as writing 'near beside' instead of 'near' or 'beside', using 'by the mean of' instead of 'by means of', and misspelling 'sponsering' and 'equipments'. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they reflect a limited and developing control over lexical features, preventing the score from reaching a higher level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt to build multi-clause sentences, such as using relative clauses and conditional ideas. There are, however, several errors in grammar and punctuation. For instance, the opening sentence contains a prepositional error with 'near beside' and a clumsy article choice in 'spending decent amount'. Other issues include pluralisation errors like 'the childrens' and 'sports equipments', along with run-on tendencies in complex sentences like the second paragraph. Fortunately, these errors rarely impede overall communication, allowing the reader to understand the intended meaning despite the grammatical slips.
