Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir,

I am writing to let you know about the general public's feedback that how money should be spent on children's sports and concerts.

In my opinion, if money is spent on local children's sports team, it will help to encourage young generation in involoving in physical activities and develop their lifestyle healthier. secondly, playing in a team can also build confidence, discipline, and communication skills which can help children to achieve their goals in the future.

On the other hand, spending money on concerts would also benefits the local community. Such events bring individuals of different ages together which help people to understand various culture, custom, and tradition. Furthermore, when concerts are held, the sale of local shops, restaurants and other services increases because visitors use their services for a while.

Although both sides have its own advantages, I believe that money should spend to provide sports facility for children because their health will be kept well due to out-door activities. playing in an open environment will give them opportunity to stay connected with other children and make new friends.

Thank you for considering my point of view

Yours faithfully

Sandeep

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt. You clearly described the benefits of sponsoring the sports team, such as encouraging physical activity and building social and communication skills. You also summarised the benefits of paying for the concerts by highlighting community engagement and increased revenue for local businesses. Finally, you gave a clear recommendation on how the company should spend the money, supporting your choice with logical reasons. While some ideas, such as the cultural benefits of concerts, could have been extended further, your position is maintained clearly throughout, and all bullet points are adequately covered to meet the requirements of this level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

Your letter shows a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, beginning with an introduction of purpose, moving on to sports sponsorship, then concerts, and finally your personal recommendation. You use appropriate cohesive devices such as "In my opinion", "On the other hand", and "Furthermore" to guide the reader smoothly through your arguments. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, and referencing between sentences is generally clear, ensuring that the overall arrangement of the text remains coherent and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as "discipline", "engagement", and "revenue", though there are occasional errors in word choice and word formation. For example, phrases like "involoving in physical activities" contain spelling and form errors, and "benefits" should be "benefit". There are also some minor awkward collocations, such as "the sale of local shops", which would be more naturally expressed as "sales in local shops". To reach a higher level, you need to use a wider range of precise lexical items with fewer errors in spelling and word formation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, using structures like conditional clauses ("if money is spent on... it will help...") and relative clauses. However, there are several grammatical errors present, particularly with articles, verb forms, and prepositions. Examples include "feedback that how money should be spent", "its own advantages" instead of "their own advantages", and "money should spend" instead of "money should be spent". Punctuation and capitalisation also need closer attention, such as starting sentences with lowercase letters like "secondly". These errors occasionally cause minor distractions, though they rarely impede overall communication.
