Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by describing the benefits of the sports team and the concerts, and giving a final recommendation on how the company should spend the money. However, some ideas remain limited and under-developed, placing the response in the intermediate range for this criterion. For instance, the discussion regarding the children's sports team touches upon encouraging athletes and company reputation, but the points lack full extension and deep explanation. Similarly, the points concerning the concerts and self-made artists are briefly mentioned rather than thoroughly explored. The final recommendation to consult the city council is introduced but lacks clear development. While the general requirements of the prompt are covered, greater elaboration and support for each main point would be necessary to elevate the task response to a higher standard.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The text presents a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, allowing the reader to follow the progression of ideas from the sports team to the concerts and finally to the recommendation. Cohesive devices are used to structure the letter, such as 'Firstly', 'Apart from that', and 'In my opinion', which help guide the reader through the different sections. However, some referencing is occasionally imprecise, and the mechanical repetition of certain transitional phrases affects the natural flow of information. Paragraph breaks are used adequately to separate the distinct prompts requested in the task. To achieve a higher level of cohesion, the writer needs to employ a wider and more flexible variety of cohesive devices while ensuring that inter-sentence referencing remains smooth and unobtrusive throughout the letter.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, demonstrating an attempt to incorporate less common items, though noticeable errors occur in word choice, collocation, and spelling. Examples of lexical inaccuracies include 'fruitful thought regarding in walfare', 'renowened', 'aritist', 'perfom', 'thewir', 'disburse your funds according the major current needs of soecity', and 'incurr'. These errors do not entirely impede communication, but they cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a limited lexical range. The writer manages to convey the intended meaning regarding community support and artistic talents, but more precise word choices and correct spelling of standard terms are required to improve the lexical quality of the response.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response displays a limited range of grammatical structures, relying on a mix of simple and complex sentence forms where attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. Frequent errors in grammar and punctuation appear throughout the text, such as missing articles ('according to major current needs'), incorrect prepositions ('regarding in walfare', 'according the major'), subject-verb agreement issues ('sports holds'), and awkward phrasing ('enable to demonstrate', 'Y should held meeting', 'assists to you whether the money should incurr'). Punctuation slips, such as spacing errors around commas and capitalization issues ('i would recommend'), also detract from the overall accuracy. While the sentences are generally understandable, the frequency of grammatical errors means that control over complex structures remains inconsistent.
