Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 5.0)
Dear Sir,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to give you the feedback on spending money behind sponsoring the sports team and pay for two open-air concerts.
To begin with, I am really glad about your decision on utilize the money behind certain things in the town. However, it would be really beneficial to sponsor the sports team in the town as the younger generation would learn some different skills in the sport field. Even, they could also take some motivation in their life by learning different games. Moreover, some people would love to attend live concert. So, it would be great idea to pay for open air concerts in the town.
Furthermore, you can also spend your money in different things like education facilities, recreational activities in the town etc. These are some alternative ways that you could use your money behind it. I hope it would be helpful to you.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Yours sincerely,
Riddhi

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response addresses the task only minimally. While all three bullet points are touched upon in a basic manner, the ideas are severely limited and under-developed. For instance, the benefits of sponsoring the sports team are mentioned very superficially by stating that the younger generation would 'learn some different skills' and take 'motivation in their life,' without providing further elaboration or specific context. Similarly, the open-air concerts are only briefly noted because 'some people would love to attend live concert.' Furthermore, the final paragraph introduces entirely new suggestions such as 'education facilities' rather than clearly concluding which of the two original options the company should choose, leading to a weak and unfocused position.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
Information and ideas are not arranged in a truly coherent progression, although paragraphing is attempted. The letter opens with a standard greeting, but the flow between ideas feels somewhat disjointed. While basic cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with' and 'Moreover,' referencing and transitions are at times clumsy. For example, the transition into alternative suggestions in the third paragraph disrupts the logical flow of addressing the two choices specifically requested by the prompt. Overall, the structural organization lacks a clear, unified progression throughout the piece, resulting in a somewhat fragmented reading experience.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey basic meaning. The writer attempts some less common expressions, such as 'younger generation' and 'recreational activities,' but these are accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice, prepositional use, and collocation. Phrasing such as 'spending money behind sponsoring' and 'utilize the money behind certain things' demonstrates a lack of precision and awkward collocation. Additionally, there are minor lexical inaccuracies, such as omitting an article in 'attend live concert' and 'open air concerts,' which cause some minor strain for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response displays a limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple and predictable patterns. Attempts at more complex structures are frequently faulty. There are several grammatical errors present throughout the text, including tense and verb form errors such as 'pay for two open-air concerts' following the infinitive 'to give you the feedback on spending money behind sponsoring... and pay' instead of paying. Other errors include prepositions in grammatical patterns, such as 'motivation in their life' instead of 'motivation in their lives,' and missing articles. These frequent errors require the reader to occasionally pause, though they do not completely obscure the overall meaning.
