Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear sir or madam,
I am writing to share my views regarding how your company should spend the money, either on sponsring a local children sports team or organising two open-air concerts.
Firstly, it would encourage children to take part in physical activities and develop a healthy lifestyle. Moreover, regular participation in sports can teach them valuable qualities suc as teamwork, discipline and preseverance. It could also provide financial support for splorts equipment, training and competitions. In the long run this investment could help talented children develop their skills and represent the local community.
I strongly believe that sponsoring the children's sports team would be the better option. Although concert would offer short-term entertainment, supporting young people would have a more lasting impact on the community. It would be a win-win situation, as children would benefit from better facilties while the company would gain a positive reputation for supporting the younger generation.
Thank you for considering my opinion. I hope you will make a decision that benefits the local communtiy.
Yours faithfully,
Ekta

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The letter gives a clear preference for sponsoring the children’s team and explains several relevant benefits, including physical activity, teamwork, discipline, equipment, and opportunities for talented children. It also briefly contrasts concerts as “short-term entertainment.” However, the task asks you to summarise the benefits of paying for the concerts, and this part is not really developed: the letter does not explain what the concerts could offer the public or local community. As a result, the response addresses the options unevenly, and the recommendation is supported mainly by the sports-team benefits. To strengthen the response, add one or two specific advantages of the concerts, such as accessible entertainment or bringing residents together, before explaining why sponsorship is still preferable.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The ideas are arranged in a generally clear sequence: an opening states the purpose, the next paragraph explains the sports-team benefits, and the final main paragraph gives your preference and rationale. Linking expressions such as “Firstly,” “Moreover,” “In the long run,” and “Although” help guide the reader. The main limitation is that the concerts receive only a brief mention within the recommendation paragraph, so the comparison is not balanced and the progression from one option to the other feels incomplete. Paragraphing is appropriate, and the closing is clear. A separate paragraph summarising the concerts’ benefits would make the organisation more complete and help the reader follow the comparison before reaching your recommendation.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You use a suitable range of vocabulary for the topic, including “physical activities,” “valuable qualities,” “financial support,” “lasting impact,” and “positive reputation.” These choices communicate your ideas clearly, and phrases such as “win-win situation” add some natural variety. There are, however, several spelling errors—“sponsring,” “suc,” “preseverance,” “splorts,” “facilties,” and “communtiy”—which reduce accuracy. Some wording is also broad: “short-term entertainment” does not specify the particular benefits concerts could bring. This performance shows useful range and some awareness of appropriate collocations, but more careful proofreading and more precise vocabulary would make the letter more polished and flexible.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.0
The response shows a good range of sentence forms, including a purpose clause (“to share my views”), modal constructions (“would encourage,” “could teach”), and a concessive sentence beginning “Although.” Many sentences are accurate and easy to understand, such as “In the long run this investment could help talented children develop their skills.” A few grammatical issues remain. In the opening, “a local children sports team” needs a possessive form (“children’s sports team”); “Although concert would offer” needs an article (“Although a concert would offer”); and “the better option” would be more natural as “the best option” when choosing between two alternatives. These are limited errors rather than a barrier to understanding. Continue checking articles and possessives while retaining your varied sentence structures.
