Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I writing to provide my feedback regarding your upcoming investement in my area. I believe your funds allocation to my place would be beneficial for residents.

Local team of my has been facing difficulties to manage their expenses. This is because they are not permforming well in touraments. In my opinion, if you started spending in supporting sports team, players would perform well and can make their careers in sports. The more sport team has fincanical resources, the more players are less likely to experience financial pronlems. However, funding for open-air may also facilitates artists to enchance their acting skills, and local residents also can enjoy dramas and shows for free.

According to me, your company prioritize sports team overs concerts because in my locality people have sufficient options for open-air concerts. This is why I am more in the fovour of sponsoring local children's sports team. I hope you will consider my feedback. Thank you in advance.

Yours faithfully,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three requested points and make your preference clear: you recommend sponsoring the children’s team because residents already have other concert options. You also give relevant benefits for both choices, including helping players pursue sports careers and allowing residents to enjoy free performances. However, some ideas are only briefly explained. For example, the link between the team’s poor tournament performance and its financial difficulties is asserted rather than clarified, and the benefits of the concerts are limited mainly to artists improving their skills and free entertainment. Develop these points with a specific explanation of how the company’s support would help the team or benefit the wider community. The letter is appropriately directed to the company and maintains a suitable formal purpose.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an opening, a paragraph comparing the two options, a recommendation, and a polite closing. The contrast signalled by “However” and the reason introduced by “This is why” help readers follow your position. Nevertheless, the main discussion places several ideas together in one paragraph, so the comparison is not as clearly organised as it could be. Some links are also awkward or unclear, particularly “The more sport team has fincanical resources, the more players are less likely…” Consider using separate paragraphs for the sports-team benefits, concert benefits, and final recommendation, and make each transition express the relationship between ideas precisely. This would create clearer progression and reduce the sense of ideas being joined mechanically.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “sponsoring,” “financial resources,” “local residents,” and “open-air concerts,” which helps communicate the subject. However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce accuracy, such as “investement,” “permforming,” “touraments,” “fincanical,” and “fovour.” Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise: “funds allocation to my place” and “funding for open-air” do not express your meaning clearly. Aim to use accurate collocations and check spelling carefully. For instance, you could refer to “allocating funds to the local area,” “supporting the team,” and “funding two open-air concerts.” More precise vocabulary would make your arguments easier to understand and more persuasive.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the conditional “if you started spending… players would perform well” and the comparative structure beginning “The more…”. The main message is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. The opening needs a subject and auxiliary (“I am writing”), and “your company prioritize” needs subject–verb agreement (“your company prioritises”). There are also problems with articles and sentence construction in “Local team of my has been facing difficulties” and “players would perform well and can make their careers.” Review verb forms, agreement, and article use, and ensure that coordinated clauses have parallel structures. Greater control of these patterns would make the letter smoother while preserving the range you are attempting.
