Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir / Madam,
i am writing this letter to your company's request for public feedback on whether the allocated funds should be used to sponsor a local children's sports team for two years or to finance two open air concerts.
Acoording to my thinking sponsoring the childrem's sports team would substantially provide long term benefit for the society. Regular participation in sport enables children to maintain healthy lifestyle while developing essential qualities such as discipline, resiliance and teamwork. Financial support could help children to buy lateat equipments, professional coaching and improved training facilities, particularly for children from underprivileged backgrounds.
Furthermore, such sponsorship would demonstrate the company's commitment to nurturing young talent and promonting the well -being of future generations.
Neverthless, funding two open air concerts woul have its own merits. These events would bring together residenta from diverse backgrounds, creating a stronger sense of community. They could also provide a valuable platform for local musicians and attract visitors from nearby regions, thereby generating additional revenue for nearby businesses. Moreover concerts would offer accesible entertainment to people who might otherwise unable to afford such experiences.
Despite these advantages, I believe sponsoring the children's sports team would be more worthwhile investment. although concerts would provide immediate enjoyment, their impact would be short lived. In contrast supporting young children could provide long last improvents on their health, confidemce and personal development.
Thank You for inviting resudents to share their views. is incerelg hope you will give priority to long term benefits of investing in local children
Yours faithfully,
Aocal resident

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three points and maintain a clear preference for sponsoring the children’s team. The benefits are relevant and supported: you explain that sport can promote health, discipline and teamwork, and that funding could improve coaching and facilities. You also summarise the concerts’ community, cultural and economic benefits before comparing their short-term impact with the longer-term value of supporting children. This gives the letter a clear purpose and a well-supported recommendation. To strengthen the response further, develop the comparison with a more specific explanation of how the company or local community would benefit from the chosen investment. The closing also attempts to thank the company and restate your view, though clearer, more polished phrasing would make the letter’s purpose more effective.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a coherent overall arrangement: it introduces the choice, discusses the sports sponsorship, considers the concerts, and then gives a recommendation. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and transitions such as “Furthermore,” “Nevertheless,” and “Despite these advantages” make the comparison easy to follow. This shows clear progression, although some linking is mechanical and the final lines are difficult to follow because the thanks and closing thought run together. The reference in “their impact” is understandable but could be made more explicit by naming the concerts. To move towards more flexible cohesion, vary how ideas are connected and ensure each paragraph has a clear, complete ending, especially the final paragraph and sign-off.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “underprivileged backgrounds,” “professional coaching,” “sense of community,” and “generating additional revenue.” These choices help explain both options and show attempts to use less common language. However, spelling errors such as “Acoording,” “resiliance,” “promonting,” and “confidemce” are noticeable, and some word combinations are inaccurate or awkward, including “lateat equipments” and “long last improvents.” These slips do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points, but they reduce precision and control. Proofread spelling carefully, and check collocations and countability—for example, use “equipment” rather than “equipments”—so that your vocabulary sounds more natural and appropriate for a formal letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex structures, including the sentence beginning “Regular participation in sport enables children…” and the contrast between the concerts’ immediate enjoyment and the team’s longer-term impact. Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “although concerts would provide…” needs a capital letter after the full stop, and “people who might otherwise unable to afford” is missing “be.” The final sentence also lacks clear sentence boundaries, making its structure difficult to interpret. There are issues with articles and sentence construction in phrases such as “would be more worthwhile investment.” Review articles, auxiliary verbs, capitalization and punctuation, while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
