Student answer (Band 5.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

Hope you are doing well, Myself Vraj Patel, I am a resident of city of Toronto. The resaon for writing this letter to you is to outline and suggesting the decisions which are made by your organization/company.

It has come to my attention, that your company have made a strategic decision to spend a certain amount which is quiet a large sum in the world of marketing to reachout enormus new customers to maximize the profit for upcoming quaterly results and financial years. As per the decision made by the responsible people for upselling. Which they will be spending into sponsoring the sports team of local children's for only two years or to pay for two open-air concerts. I would like to describe in details one by one and outline my thoughts on suggesting something way more effective.

Starting with, commitment made by your corporation to provide funding to surrounding childrens sport team. I really appriciated your thougts on this one, as this will increase their likings towards sports way more then that of just playing it for fun. It will benefit their parents pockets as well because the equipments will be costly and expensive to buy, rent or lease. Even they will be able to rent out the facilities for longer periods to practise and achieve their goals. Whereas, the other option will make rich richer. For paying for concert for only twice, will not benefit locals at all. The concert will be entertaining for neighbourhoods but a bit caoutic as well. Which might creat caous and riots just because of few people.

What I believe that company should spend in such a way that they can help people into their day to day life. Supposingly, paying 50% of their public transit fares for certain period or alloted fundings from the company. Give out discount coupons on groceries or meals to homeless people or mid day meals in schools. This will not only help them in day to day life but they will connect with you emtionally and end being your customers.

Thank you,

Vraj Patel,

Resident of the city of Toronto.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You address the choice and give relevant benefits of sponsoring the children’s team, including access to equipment and facilities, and you mention that concerts could entertain local residents. However, the concert option is dismissed quickly, with the claim that it may cause “chaos and riots” not explained or balanced against its potential benefits. More importantly, your final recommendation is to fund transit fares, groceries, or school meals rather than choosing either option the company presented. This leaves the central request unanswered and makes your position unclear in relation to the two alternatives. To strengthen the response, compare the options directly and clearly recommend one, supporting that choice with specific reasons connected to the company and community.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The letter has recognisable sections: an opening, discussion of the two proposals, a recommendation, and a closing. This gives the reader some organisation. However, progression is not consistently clear: the long second paragraph moves from the company’s marketing aims to the sponsorship proposal and then to concerts, while the final paragraph introduces several unrelated funding ideas. Some linking phrases, such as “Starting with” and “Whereas,” help signal movement, but others are awkward or do not connect complete ideas clearly, as in “As per the decision made…” and “Which might create…”. Use one paragraph for each task point, connect ideas with precise transitions, and make the recommendation follow logically from the comparison.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “sponsoring,” “facilities,” “financial years,” and “public transit fares.” However, spelling errors and inaccurate or unnatural word choices are frequent enough to distract the reader: examples include “resaon,” “enormus,” “quaterly,” “appriciated,” and “caoutic.” Some phrases are also imprecise, such as “upselling” and “reachout enormus new customers,” which do not clearly express the intended point in this context. The repeated use of “spend” and “help” also limits variety. Build accuracy by checking spelling and choosing familiar, precise collocations; for example, describe the company as “supporting local youth sport” and the concerts as “providing accessible entertainment for residents.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

There are attempts to use longer structures, including explanations with “because” and contrasts introduced by “Whereas,” but many sentences are incomplete or contain several grammatical problems. For example, “As per the decision made by the responsible people for upselling” is a fragment, and “Which they will be spending into sponsoring…” does not form a complete sentence. Agreement and verb forms are also unreliable in “your company have made” and “What I believe that company should spend.” Punctuation and sentence boundaries sometimes make the meaning harder to follow. Practise writing complete subject–verb sentences, checking agreement and articles, and separating each main idea into a clear sentence before attempting more complex structures.
