Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam.
My name is NIshan, I am the resident of Dungri town. I have read your artical in local newspaper about that, your company wanted to spend specific amount of money either on local school children's sport team for couple of year or to sponsor two open-air concert.
The great advantage of sposoring sport team is both coach and players would be free from the funding stress. It will have major impact on the performance of the team. Moreover, sport team can buy better training equipment.
Alternatevely, by sponsoring the concerts people can get rid from daily routine and enjoy something unique event. That helps people to reduce stress and enxiety. Moreover, youth get an oportunity to show their talent in front of the audience.
i believe the company should spent money on the local sport team rather than organising the concerts. As there few higher class people organize concerts every year quaterly.
I hope you will consider my request and willing to hear back from you.
Yours faithfully,
XYZ

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points and make your preference clear: you support funding the children’s sports team. The benefits of sponsorship are relevant, especially reducing financial pressure on coaches and players and enabling the purchase of better equipment. You also mention relaxation and a platform for young performers as benefits of the concerts. However, these points are brief and would be stronger with specific explanation—for example, how improved equipment could help children participate or develop. Your reason for choosing the team, that concerts are already organised regularly, is useful but needs clearer support or detail. The letter is recognisably formal and includes an appropriate closing, though the opening could state the purpose more directly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph on each funding option, and a final recommendation. This makes the main progression easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “Alternatively” help signal relationships between ideas. The organisation is not yet consistently smooth, however. The opening sentence combines several points, while the recommendation paragraph begins with “As” but does not form a complete sentence, interrupting the flow. Some links are also mechanical, with “Moreover” repeated. Use complete sentences and connect the final reason directly to your recommendation; clearer paragraph transitions would make the letter feel more cohesive.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “funding stress,” “training equipment,” “daily routine,” and “audience.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “performance of the team.” However, spelling errors and inaccurate word choices are noticeable and sometimes make the reader pause: “artical,” “sposoring,” “Alternatevely,” and “enxiety” should be corrected. Some phrases are also unnatural, including “get rid from daily routine” and “enjoy something unique event.” Aim for accurate collocations and a more formal register, such as describing concerts as an opportunity for residents to enjoy live entertainment. Proofreading spelling and word forms would improve clarity and control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple sentences and more complex structures, including “The great advantage … is both coach and players would be free” and the sentence beginning “As there few higher class people…”. These attempts show some range, but several sentences contain grammatical errors that make the relationships between ideas unclear. For example, “I am the resident” needs an article choice suited to the meaning, and “the company should spent” requires the base form after “should.” The clause beginning “As” is incomplete and lacks a verb in “there few.” Punctuation also needs attention: the salutation should end with a comma, and the opening uses a full stop where a comma would be more appropriate. Practise complete clauses and modal verb patterns.
