Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to share my feedback about funding. As it would be better to sponser a local children's sports team as compare to providing money for two open air concerts.

Sponsoring the sports team for two years encourage children to play sports during their leisure time and inculcate good habits. Additionally, being a part of a sports team will be responsible for development of essential life skills like good communication, critical-thinking power, problem-solving, disciplined, makes them responsible and will ehnahce their team-work ability. Apart from that, talented children get a chance to display their hidden talent in sports and build their career in their respective games.

Paying for the concerts will promote community members to attend enjoyable live performances after hectic working hours and get some refreshments. Also, it will provide them chance to attend concerts with their family and friends and create some beautiful memories.

As per my view, it would be better to spend money for children's sports team insted of two open air concerts, because, it will assist children to inculcate good habits for their future and turn their sports passion into future later in life. Apart from that, it will be beficial for company to enhance their image among the society and being famous for their charity work.

I hope my feedback will be helpful to you. Please let me know if you need any help.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Yours faithfully,

Twinkle

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three points and make your recommendation clear: you favour sponsoring the children’s team. The benefits are relevant and extended, including healthy habits, life skills, opportunities for talented children, and a stronger company image. You also summarise the concerts’ appeal through live entertainment and shared family experiences. This range of supporting detail fits a response that covers the task well. To strengthen the development further, explain more directly how the concerts benefit the wider local community, rather than focusing mainly on enjoyment and refreshments. Your recommendation could also be linked more explicitly to the company’s aims, such as lasting community impact, so the comparison feels more fully reasoned.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter has a clear progression: an opening that states your preference, a paragraph on the sports team, one on the concerts, and a concluding recommendation. Linking expressions such as “Additionally,” “Apart from that,” and “As per my view” help signal how ideas relate, and the reader can follow the comparison throughout. The closing is also appropriate for a formal letter. Some transitions are repetitive, particularly the repeated use of “Apart from that,” and the opening sentence fragment makes the initial progression less smooth. Use a wider range of natural links and connect the opening preference to the following explanation in a complete sentence. Overall, the organisation is clear, with some room for more flexible cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of relevant vocabulary, including “critical-thinking,” “problem-solving,” “live performances,” and “charity work,” which helps communicate the benefits of each option. However, noticeable spelling, word-form, and collocation errors limit precision: “sponser,” “ehnahce,” “insted,” and “beficial” are misspelled, while “inculcate good habits” and “turn their sports passion into future” are awkward or unclear combinations. “Critical-thinking power” is also not a natural expression. These choices do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points, but they make the language less controlled. Aim to check spelling carefully and learn common word partnerships, especially when describing skills, community benefits, and future opportunities.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a sentence listing several skills and a contrast between the two funding options. However, errors in sentence construction and verb forms are frequent enough to affect fluency. For example, “As it would be better to sponsor…” is a dependent clause presented as a complete sentence, and “Sponsoring the sports team for two years encourage children” has a subject–verb agreement error. The list beginning “like good communication” also shifts between nouns and adjectives, making its structure difficult to follow. In “it will be beficial … and being famous,” the coordinated forms do not match. Practise complete sentence patterns, consistent agreement, and parallel structures to make your ideas easier to read.
