Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I hope this letter finds you well. I am a local resident and this leter is to give my opinion on wheather to sponsoring a local children's sports team for two years or paying for two open-air concerts with your money.

I believe by paying for sports team, your company can encourage children to participate more in physical activities. Youngsters will able to get professional training which can deliver positive outcome during competitions. Moreover, this opportunity can motivate several young players to consider sports as their professional career.

Undoubtedly, open-air concerts can increase the popularity of the town which will attract more tourists. This will not only allow the neighbouring areas to unite with our community but will also contribute to the local economy.

From my perspective, shaping the future of young ones is a more sensible decision. Although spending money on open-air concerts can bring a significant business to the local market, investing in children's sports team can shape their future.

I believe you will value my feedback towards your decision.

Yours faithfully,

Suman

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three requested points and maintain a clear recommendation: the company should support the children’s team because this can help shape young people’s futures. The sports benefits are relevant and extended through participation, professional training and possible careers. You also summarise the concerts’ potential to attract tourists, unite nearby communities and support the local economy. These points make the letter purposeful and complete. To strengthen the response further, develop the comparison with a more specific explanation of why the long-term benefits to children outweigh the concerts’ community and economic gains. The ideas are clear, though some claims, such as the effect on tourism, remain general. The response meets the task requirements; 9 words copied from the task prompt were not counted.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter has a clear progression: an opening that states its purpose, a paragraph for each option, a recommendation, and a suitable closing. Paragraphing helps the reader distinguish the benefits of sports sponsorship from those of the concerts. Linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Undoubtedly,” and “Although” guide the argument, and the contrast in the final paragraph makes your preference easy to follow. To make the organisation even more polished, connect the comparison more explicitly to the earlier points—for example, explain how sustained support over two years compares with the shorter-term impact of two concerts. The sequence is logical overall, although some transitions feel formulaic rather than fully integrated.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “professional training,” “physical activities,” “local economy,” and “shape their future.” These choices communicate the main ideas clearly, and phrases such as “neighbouring areas” show an attempt to use more specific language. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural: “paying for sports team” needs an article, while “bring a significant business to the local market” does not express the intended economic benefit naturally. There are also spelling errors in “leter” and “wheather.” Aim for more precise collocations and proofread spelling; this would make the vocabulary more controlled and natural without changing your clear message.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including the contrastive structure “Although spending money on open-air concerts can bring…, investing in children’s sports team can…”. The meaning remains clear throughout, and the sentence beginning “This will not only…” shows an attempt at a more developed construction. Some grammatical errors remain, however. In “Youngsters will able to get,” the modal needs “be” before “able”; “by paying for sports team” needs an article, and “investing in children’s sports team” also requires a determiner or plural form. The opening phrase “on whether to sponsoring” has an incorrect verb pattern. Review modal constructions, articles and verb patterns, while continuing to use varied sentence structures.
