Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Sir,

I am writing this letter to show my gratitude for your compay to have the idea of spending money in our area.It would be a great opportunity for us to be a part of this.

Moreover, if you spend money sponsoring them can give them a chance to rise and shine in the upcoming Sports. It can fulfill their needs to become a better sportsman. However, their win can lead them to play at State level and even for Nationals in future and possibily they can even reprsent the country.Although, this can benefit your company by enhancing public image in the market that it not only promotes business but also helps people and Nation. Thus,Good public figure also increases company sales.

On the other hand paying money for the concert Is also a good ideas as people can get some entertainment from their busy lives and this can also enhance your position as a public figure.A concert can bring joy and happiness among people who are tired from their busy lives and schedules.

At the end, I would like to express my views that this money sould be spent on sponsoring the sports as our local sport team pleayer are very capable and worth investing and are very hardworking but, the only thing that holds them back is the funding. This can help in building future of many lives.

Thank you

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three points and make your preference clear: you recommend sponsoring the local sports team. The benefits you identify are relevant, including giving young players a chance to progress and improving the company’s public image. You also summarise the concerts’ appeal through entertainment and enjoyment for busy residents. However, the concert benefits are less developed than the sports argument, and some claims about the team reaching national or international levels are speculative rather than supported. The letter would be more complete if you explained more specifically how the concerts could benefit the wider community or the company, and gave a clearer reason why the sports sponsorship is the stronger choice. The purpose is clear, though the opening could be more directly framed as feedback.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an opening, a paragraph about sports sponsorship, a contrastive paragraph about concerts, and a final recommendation. Phrases such as “Moreover,” “On the other hand,” and “At the end” help signal the stages of your argument. The overall progression is understandable, but some links feel mechanical, and the sports paragraph contains several ideas crowded together, making the relationship between player development and company sales less clear. The final paragraph repeats the recommendation without fully drawing together the comparison. Use clearer sentence boundaries and organise each paragraph around one main point; for example, separate the team’s benefits from the company’s reputational benefits.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary, including “sponsoring,” “public image,” “entertainment,” and “funding,” which allows you to discuss both options. There are also attempts at more expressive phrases such as “rise and shine” and “joy and happiness.” However, some choices are informal or imprecise for a formal letter, and several spelling errors—such as “compay,” “possibily,” and “reprsent”—reduce accuracy. Phrases including “good public figure” and “enhancing your position as a public figure” do not express the intended idea naturally. Aim for precise collocations and a consistently formal register, such as describing the company’s reputation or community profile rather than its status as a public figure.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “if,” “although,” and “that.” The main ideas remain understandable, but some sentence structures are faulty or incomplete. For example, “if you spend money sponsoring them can give them a chance” lacks a clear grammatical subject, while “Although, this can benefit your company” uses a subordinate linker without completing the contrast. There are also errors in articles, agreement, and punctuation, such as “a good ideas” and the inconsistent spacing around commas and full stops. Work on building complete clauses and checking that each sentence has a clear subject and verb. More accurate control of these structures would make your argument easier to follow.
