Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam.

I am writing this letter to express my individual thought on current decision of your company weather to spend a amount on sponsership or concerts. Our local children's sports team has shown extraordinary game plays since last year and they even won the state championship this year. Howver, they were failed to play national level because of budget issues. They needed the new hockey kits, fitness coach and travel support but less funding ruined a whole year. It also demotivates parents and kids to see sports as a thriving career which is a serious issue.

In contrast, two open-air concerts can help the area to grow financially and will attract more people and tourism. It will increase the reach of local bussiness. The cultural exchange will be on an another level and area will certainely get a reconginazation.

In both the circumstances, our area will develop but I strongly believe our futures are our kids and funding our future even for only two years will create a noticable differeance in the community.

Yours sincerely,

Pankti

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three requested points and maintain a clear preference for supporting the children’s team. The examples of its championship and its need for equipment, coaching and travel support make the case relevant and specific. You also summarise concert benefits, including tourism, local business and cultural exchange. However, the concert benefits are listed rather than explained, and the claim that funding children will create a “noticeable difference” could be supported with a clearer link to the community. The recommendation is present but arrives briefly at the end. To strengthen the response further, develop the comparison and explain why the team’s longer-term benefits outweigh the concerts’ wider economic and cultural gains. The letter’s purpose is clear throughout, though some ideas are more fully developed than others.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a coherent overall arrangement: it introduces the decision, discusses the sports team, contrasts this with the concerts, and ends with a recommendation. Paragraphing helps distinguish the two options, while phrases such as “In contrast” and “In both the circumstances” signal the relationship between ideas. The progression is generally easy to follow, but some links feel mechanical or unclear. For example, “It also demotivates parents and kids” does not make fully clear whether “it” refers to the lack of funding or the team’s inability to compete nationally. The final paragraph also moves quickly from comparison to conclusion. Use more precise referencing and connect each benefit to the recommendation so the argument flows more smoothly.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “state championship,” “budget issues,” “fitness coach,” “tourism,” and “cultural exchange.” These choices help communicate the main points, and you attempt more specific expressions such as “thriving career.” However, several spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, including “sponsership,” “bussiness,” “reconginazation,” and “differeance.” Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “extraordinary game plays,” “on an another level,” and “a amount.” Aim for accurate, natural collocations rather than ambitious wording that does not fit the context. Proofreading spelling and checking common combinations of words would make your ideas clearer and more polished.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the contrast introduced by “In contrast” and the clause “I strongly believe our futures are our kids.” Most of the message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “on current decision” needs an article, “they were failed to play” has an incorrect verb construction, and “It will increase” shifts from the plural subject “concerts” without a clear singular referent. The opening punctuation also uses a full stop after the salutation where a comma is expected. Work on articles, verb patterns and consistent subject–verb reference, then proofread punctuation. More accurate control of these structures would help you express the comparison and recommendation with greater ease.
