Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am Nishan. I am a resident of Dungari. I am writing this letter in response to, for which activity your company should sponsor to spend their certain amount of money.

Our local school's sports team always showed up with lower qaulity equipments. Which not only affect team overall performance but also affect confidence. So, if your company sponsor local school sports team, school can buy a new equipments such as bat, ball and hockey sticks etc. Which can boost team performance.

On the other hand, organized concerts can also be optimum choice. As not only children but also younger can attend the concert and take a break from their daily routine. Further, organize special event can reduce stress of audience.

I personally think your company should provide support for local school sports team. Because, school sport team not get sponsored every year. Moreover, there is plenty of other activities that local people can do and refresh their mind.

I hope you will consider my request.

Yours faithfully,

Nishan

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points and make your preference clear: you recommend supporting the school sports team. The equipment and confidence benefits are relevant, and you also explain that concerts could offer a break and reduce stress for a wider audience. This covers the task well overall. However, the sports-team benefits are more developed than the concert benefits, which remain general; for example, you could explain how concerts bring residents together or provide accessible entertainment. The reason that the team “not get sponsored every year” supports your choice, but would be stronger with a clearer link to the company’s impact over the two-year period. A little more specific support would make the ideas more fully developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall structure: an opening, separate paragraphs for the two options, a recommendation, and a polite closing. Phrases such as “On the other hand,” “Moreover,” and “I personally think” help signal the progression of ideas. This makes the response easy to follow. Some connections are less smooth, however. The opening sentence, “I am writing this letter in response to, for which activity,” does not clearly introduce the purpose, and beginning sentences with “Which” and “Because” leaves them disconnected from the preceding ideas. The contrast between the options is also somewhat mechanical. Use complete sentences and link each benefit directly to the company’s decision to create more fluent progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main points, including “sports team,” “performance,” “confidence,” “concert,” and “daily routine.” There are also attempts at more formal or varied wording, such as “provide support” and “consider my request.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “lower qaulity equipments,” “optimum choice,” and “refresh their mind.” The spelling error in “qaulity” and the unsuitable plural form “equipments” also reduce precision. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding your main message, but the range is not yet consistently controlled. Aim for natural phrases such as “poor-quality equipment” and “an excellent option.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the contrast introduced by “On the other hand” and the “not only…but also” construction. The main message remains understandable, but control is uneven. Several clauses are written as fragments: “Which not only affect…” and “Because, school sport team…” should be joined to complete sentences. There are also errors in agreement and verb forms, as in “your company sponsor” and “team not get sponsored,” as well as article and number problems in “a new equipments.” Punctuation after “Because” and before “Which” also disrupts sentence structure. Practise forming complete clauses and checking subject–verb agreement, articles, and singular/plural forms.
