Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I am hearing a wonderful news through a newspaper, your company 'The Shell' is investing 2 million dollars in my area. As one of your representative mentioned that you requires surveys from the residents regarding whether you should sponsor a sport's team or grant for couple of open-air concerts.
To start with, as there is such a big influence of social media on youth, some of the children refuse to do outdoor activities. Investing in local children's football team can encourange other children to play a sport. Also, as this team performed not too good in the last inter-society competition because of the poor quality shoes, the sponsorship can help these children to get lastest equiments so they can have fair chance.
On the other hand, if you invest in the two open-air concerts; adults can get encouranged to become an artist, also, the residentsw who are tired with the worklife management can attend a few concerts which can be held in their area.
In my opinion, as putting money in the two open-air concerts have their benefits, however, these are not as significant as sponsoring a local youth football team. So, I suggest your company to spend money on a local children's sports team.
I am so excited to share my feedback.
Yours regsards,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requested points and make your recommendation clear: you favour sponsoring the children’s football team. The sports-team benefits are the strongest part, with the link between social media, reduced outdoor activity, and encouraging children to play, plus the practical example of replacing poor-quality shoes. The concert paragraph also identifies benefits for residents and aspiring artists, but these points are less fully explained, and the phrase about “worklife management” makes the intended benefit unclear. Your opening gives context for the company’s request, although the letter would be more effective if it used the specified salutation and a more direct, formal opening. To strengthen the response, develop the concert benefits more precisely and explain the wider value of your preferred option.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph for each funding option, a recommendation, and a closing. Sequencing phrases such as “To start with,” “On the other hand,” and “In my opinion” help readers follow the comparison. However, some connections feel mechanical, and the final paragraph’s “as … however” construction makes the relationship between the concession and recommendation awkward. The concert paragraph also moves quickly between benefits without clearly linking them. Paragraphing is appropriate, but clearer transitions and more precise referencing would improve the flow—for example, explicitly connecting the concerts’ community value to the company’s decision before explaining why the team offers greater long-term benefits.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “sponsorship,” “open-air concerts,” “residents,” and “competition,” and the reader can generally understand your main points. However, several noticeable spelling, word-form, and collocation errors limit precision: “encourange,” “latest equiments,” “residentsw,” and “worklife management” are examples. Phrases such as “performed not too good” and “grant for couple of” are also not natural in this context. These issues fit a developing but adequate range: you attempt to express specific ideas, yet control of common combinations is inconsistent. Proofread spelling and choose more natural phrases, such as “performed poorly” and “fund two open-air concerts,” to make the letter clearer and more professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a reason clause beginning “as” and a contrast introduced by “On the other hand.” The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in sentence construction and agreement. For example, “your company … is investing” is followed by “you requires,” and “putting money … have their benefits” does not agree in number. The sentence beginning “In my opinion, as…” also combines a concession and recommendation in an incomplete or awkward structure. There are some errors with articles and plural forms as well, as in “for couple of open-air concerts.” Aim to make complex sentences complete and check subject–verb agreement; a clearer version would be: “Although concerts have benefits, sponsoring the team would have a greater impact.”
