Student answer (Band 5.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing in response to the public opinion on whether company should sponsor local children's sports team for next 2-years, or fund 2 open-air concerts.
I believe sponsoring sports teams has numerous benefits. The primary benefit would be to encourage children to take part in physical activities. Which would assist in developing healthy habits at early age. Moreover, being a part of team will foster collaborative environment, developing further life skills such as leadership, perseverance , and their interpersonal skills.
Funding open-air concerts has its own advantages. For instance, It would attract people form other nearby towns,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
You identify the two options and give relevant benefits of sponsoring the team, including physical activity, healthy habits, teamwork and life skills. However, the letter stops before you have fully summarised the concert benefits or stated how the company should spend the money, so two key task points are missing. The concert section only begins with attracting people from nearby towns, and the response ends mid-thought. The required minimum length is also not met, which contributes to the limited development. To improve, complete each bullet point, explain the likely value of concerts to the community, and clearly recommend one option with a reason.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic, understandable structure: an opening explains its purpose, followed by separate sections on the sports team and concerts. Phrases such as “Moreover” and “For instance” help signal added points and examples. However, there is no concluding paragraph or clear progression to a recommendation, and the final concert point is left unfinished, making the letter feel incomplete. The opening also repeats the alternatives rather than moving directly into the writer’s view. Use a complete paragraph for each option, then finish with a concise recommendation; ensure each paragraph develops a full idea before moving on.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonably varied set of relevant expressions, including “physical activities,” “healthy habits,” “collaborative environment,” and “interpersonal skills.” These choices communicate the benefits of sport clearly and show some ability to use topic-specific vocabulary. There are, however, several inaccurate or awkward choices: “public opinion” is not the most natural way to describe the company’s request for feedback, and “people form other nearby towns” contains a spelling error and an imprecise phrase. “2-years” and “2 open-air concerts” are also too informal for a formal letter. Aim for more natural collocations and spell-check carefully, while retaining the useful range already shown.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more developed sentence forms, and the sentence beginning “Moreover” includes a participial phrase to add detail. Some grammatical control is evident, but errors and sentence-boundary problems remain. “Which would assist in developing…” is a fragment because it is separated from the preceding sentence; join it to the previous clause. In “whether company should sponsor,” an article is needed before “company,” and “at early age” also needs an article. The comma in “perseverance , and” is incorrectly spaced and placed. Review articles, sentence completeness and punctuation, and use a wider range of complete complex sentences to express the relationships between ideas.
