Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to express my viewpoints on both the alternatives from which you are going to fund one selective option. First and foremost, I would like to appreciate your initiative to choose our area from an entire city. Moving to first alternative, sponsoring a child's sports team for two years would be a noble cause. Our area is well-known for sports where every year local residents get selected for the international competition. Last year, our hockey team played at the interantional level held in Brazil and won the silver medal. After their biggest win, they were interviewed and they disclosed their hardships to get the good-qualified coach, sports equipment.
On the other hand, our area is under-developed where hardly anyone get a chance to experience the concerts. In this scenario, this would be an indispensable memory for them. Further, organising the open concerts for them would be phenomenal for them.
Considering both, I would recommend you to do the funding for the children's sports. As it would be rewarding in building their career and learning the techniques which provides them competitive edge in sports.
I hope your decision would in allignment with my suggestion.
Yours sincerely,
Kim

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requested points and make your recommendation clear: you favour funding the children’s sports team. The sports benefits are supported with relevant local detail, including the hockey team’s silver medal and players’ reported difficulties obtaining a qualified coach and equipment. You also identify the concerts’ value as a rare experience for residents in an under-developed area. However, this second benefit is less fully explained, and the claim that concerts would be “phenomenal” is not supported with a specific reason. To strengthen the response further, explain how the concerts could benefit the wider community, then connect your evidence more explicitly to why sports sponsorship is the better investment.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a coherent overall structure: an opening, a paragraph for each funding option, a recommendation, and a closing. Transitions such as “On the other hand” and “Considering both” help readers follow the comparison, and the recommendation is easy to locate. Some linking is mechanical or imprecise, however: “Moving to first alternative” is an awkward transition, while “Further” introduces a point that largely repeats the previous claim about the concerts being memorable. The final recommendation would connect more smoothly if it briefly contrasted the lasting development offered by sports with the one-off nature of concerts. Use clearer paragraph links and avoid repeating “for them” to make the progression more natural.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including “sponsoring,” “hardships,” “competitive edge,” and “indispensable.” These choices help communicate the topic and your position, and the meaning remains clear despite some inaccurate or unnatural expressions. For example, “one selective option” is not a natural way to describe the choice, “good-qualified coach” is an incorrect collocation, and “phenomenal for them” is vague. There are also spelling errors in “interantional” and “allignment.” Aim for precise, natural phrases rather than choosing elevated words that do not fit the context; proofreading spelling and checking collocations would improve control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the relative clause in “where every year local residents get selected” and the reason clause beginning “As it would be rewarding.” The main ideas are generally understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “hardly anyone get” needs subject–verb agreement, and “the techniques which provides” has a plural subject that requires “provide.” The final sentence beginning “As” is a fragment because it does not attach to a main clause. There are also awkward sentence constructions, such as “from which you are going to fund one selective option.” Build complex sentences around complete main clauses, and check agreement and sentence boundaries during revision.
