Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing to provide feedback on how you should spend money. Firstly, I will summarise benefits of both sides. To begin with, sponsoring a local children's sports team would give them an oppertunity to grow and became better in their feild of sports. Moreover, It will allow them to have better equimpments and practice sessions which will enchance their skills and support their carrer as an athelete.
On the other hand, paying for the concerts will allow local community to enjoy something different in their area. This will give exposure to a form of enertainement and excientenment to local people and they will be able to attend live concerts, which most of them never dreamed of or have missed in their life due to high cost of tickets.
In my opinion, you should go spend you money in supporting children's sports team. As this can turn out to be an wonderful oppertunity for kids to outshine their talent and build their carrer in sports, which they are not able to do because of lack of money and poor facilites available.
I hope this will help you in making a good decision. We look forward to hearing from you
yours truly
ana

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you explain that sponsorship could provide equipment and practice, describe the concerts as affordable live entertainment, and clearly recommend supporting the children’s team. This gives the letter a relevant, consistent purpose. The sports-team benefits are more developed than the concert benefits, which are mainly presented as enjoyment and access to live music; adding a further specific benefit, such as bringing residents together, would balance the discussion. Your recommendation is clear, but its support repeats the ideas of opportunity and career development rather than extending them with a concrete example. The response therefore covers the task well overall, while some ideas remain less fully developed than others. The closing is appropriate, though the greeting and sign-off could be more consistently formal.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear progression: an opening purpose, a paragraph on sponsorship, a contrastive paragraph on concerts, a recommendation, and a closing. Phrases such as “To begin with,” “On the other hand,” and “In my opinion” make the relationship between the main points easy to follow. Paragraphing is effective, and the reader can identify your position without difficulty. Some linking is a little formulaic, particularly the sequence of signposting phrases, and “Firstly, I will summarise benefits of both sides” announces the structure rather than moving directly into the ideas. The final lines also need clearer separation and punctuation. More varied transitions and smoother links between the recommendation and its supporting reasons would make the progression feel more natural.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “sponsoring,” “exposure,” “live concerts,” “skills,” and “career,” and the intended meaning is generally clear. There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “practice sessions” and “outshine their talent.” However, spelling errors are noticeable, including “oppertunity,” “feild,” “equimpments,” “enchance,” and “enertainement,” and some word combinations are unnatural. For example, “outshine their talent” would be more naturally expressed as “develop or showcase their talent,” while “spend money in supporting” is not idiomatic. These issues limit precision and polish, even though they do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points. Check spelling and collocations carefully when revising.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the relative clause in “which most of them never dreamed of” and the reason clause beginning “because of lack of money.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. In “As this can turn out to be an wonderful opportunity,” the sentence fragment should be joined to the preceding sentence, and the article should be “a wonderful opportunity.” “You should go spend you money” needs “your,” while “I hope this will help… We look forward…” requires clearer sentence separation and punctuation. There are also inconsistent capitalisation and punctuation around sentence boundaries. Aim to produce complete sentences consistently, check articles and possessives, and use punctuation to separate the closing from the main letter.
