Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope you are doing well. I want you to appreciate on your decision to invest money on sports team or concerts for general public.
Sports are the key elements for developing children in our society, which gives opportunity to local children to participate in the sports. Our sports team need funds to operate their functions smoothly, which provide opportunity for local children to participate more in sports. By sponsoring the sports team for two years will able to provide chance to play and practice more, so, they can have fair chance to perform well in tournaments and local regional games.
Concerts are also important for the refreshment of local public specially for the famiies, because these types of activites helps people to get out of their busy and stressful life.
Sports and concerts are both important for local community. A potential solution could be that company should invest in sports team for one year rather than two years and pay for one open-air concerts for general public rather than arranging two of them. This way both sides get benefits from your spendings.
I look forward to see your decision and we all community do respect and support your decisions.
Your sincerely,
Muhammad Atiq Zahir

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three requested points: you explain that sponsorship would give children more chances to practise and compete, note that concerts offer families a break from stressful routines, and state a preferred way to divide the funding. The sports benefits are the most developed, while the concert benefits are brief and general; adding a specific benefit such as bringing residents together or supporting local performers would make this part more complete. Your recommendation also changes the original choice by proposing one year of sponsorship and one concert, so explain why this compromise is preferable to either option as presented. The purpose and position are understandable, but fuller support and a more direct recommendation would strengthen the letter.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening, separate paragraphs on sport and concerts, a recommendation, and a closing. This makes the main points easy to locate, and transitions such as “Concerts are also important” and “Sports and concerts are both important” help connect the discussion. The progression is generally logical, though the sports paragraph repeats the idea that funding gives children opportunities to participate. The final paragraph also moves quickly from comparing the options to proposing a compromise, without explaining the reasoning behind it. To make the organisation more fluent, avoid repeating the same benefit and use a clearer link between the comparison and your recommendation.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “sponsoring,” “tournaments,” “open-air concerts,” and “busy and stressful life,” so the reader can understand your main ideas. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “potential solution.” However, several word choices and collocations are unnatural or imprecise, including “appreciate on your decision,” “invest money on,” “operate their functions,” and “refreshment of local public.” Spelling errors such as “famiies” and “activites” also reduce accuracy. Aim for natural combinations such as “consider your decision,” “invest in,” and “provide entertainment for local residents,” and check spelling and word forms carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “Sports are the key elements …, which gives opportunity” and a conditional-style recommendation beginning “A potential solution could be.” The overall meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. For example, “By sponsoring the sports team for two years will able to provide” lacks a clear subject and the verb “be”; “activities helps” has subject–verb disagreement; and “I look forward to see” needs a gerund. Articles and plurals also need attention, as in “a fair chance” and “one open-air concert.” Practise building complete clauses and checking agreement, verb patterns, and singular/plural forms.
