Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing in regard of feedback your company asked for on spending certain amount of money either to help a local children's sports team for two years or to pay for two open-air music events.
Regarding sponsoring the sport team I strongley belive that company should help children's sports team for two years as it will have really good impact in our community and allow our community children to play sport who are not playing and concered about financial situation. This will lead to have future sports stars from our community.
With reference to paying for concerts I feel it will give entire area masses a really good experience to have fun and enjoy open air concert together. Neverthless things like these gives folks cheap dompamine and they forgot after some time.
In my opinion, spending money on sports team is worth spending on rather than open-air concerts.
Best,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three points and make your recommendation clear: you favour supporting the children’s team, while noting that concerts could provide an enjoyable shared experience. The sports-team benefit is relevant, especially the opportunity for children facing financial constraints to participate, but the further claim about producing future sports stars is not explained. The concert benefits are less fully summarised, and the comment that people “forgot after some time” does not develop the company’s potential benefits. The response is also 8 words below the 150-word minimum; the 15 words copied from the task prompt are not counted. Add a little more specific support for both options and explain your recommendation more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening, separate paragraphs for the two options, and a concluding recommendation. Phrases such as “Regarding” and “With reference to” help signal the shift between topics, and the reader can follow your position. This meets the criterion’s expectation of coherent organisation, with some effective linking. However, the transitions are somewhat formulaic, and the final recommendation repeats the preference already stated in the sports paragraph rather than drawing the comparison together. The relationship between the concerts’ benefits and the criticism that follows could also be made clearer. To strengthen progression, use the final paragraph to briefly weigh the two options and connect your reasons explicitly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of vocabulary for the topic, including “sponsor,” “financial situation,” “community,” and “open-air concert.” These choices make the main ideas understandable, and there is an attempt to use more expressive language in “future sports stars” and “a really good experience.” However, several word-choice and collocation problems reduce precision: “cheap dompamine” is unclear and inappropriate in this context, while “entire area masses” is not a natural way to describe the audience. Spelling errors such as “strongley,” “belive,” and “Neverthless” are also noticeable. Aim for accurate, natural phrases such as “local residents” and “a memorable shared experience,” and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
Your response includes both simple sentences and attempts at more complex structures, for example the sentence explaining that sponsorship “will have really good impact … and allow our community children to play sport.” The overall meaning remains clear, and the letter’s basic sentence patterns are generally understandable. Some grammatical errors persist, however: “in regard of feedback” has an incorrect preposition pattern, “I strongly believe that company” needs an article, and “things like these gives” has a subject–verb agreement error. The phrase “This will lead to have” also uses an incorrect verb construction. Practise article use, agreement, and verb patterns, then proofread each sentence to improve accuracy while retaining your longer structures.
