Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I trust this correspondence reaches you in good health. My name is Jasmeen Kaur and I am resident of city Patiala. I am writing in response of giving suggestions regarding endorsing children's sports team for two years either investing in two open air concerts for public.

I believe both has its own benefits. As sponsoring children's sports team provides them with financial help. This would help them to buy appropriate sports equipment as well as to pay for their training. Consequently, This would significantly reduce their financial burden which will allow them to focus on their sport and to improve their performance.

However, open air concerts will provide entertainment to general public especially to elderly people who had not experienced the live music before.Furthermore, it will bring all the people of community together.

I would advice you to kindly utilize your funds in sponsoring children's sports team since i believe their parents need more financial help. In addition, society also wants their children to suceed thereby, I believe it is the best idea to spend on them. I hope you will carefully analyze my suggestions and invest your money in building best community.

I look forward to seeing your decision!

Yours faithfully,

Jasmeen

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three requested points and make your recommendation clear: you favour sponsoring the children’s team. The benefits of sponsorship are relevant and supported with practical examples, such as buying equipment and paying for training, and you explain that this could reduce families’ financial burden. The concerts’ benefits are also mentioned—entertainment and bringing the community together—but this part is less developed than the sports-team discussion. Your reason for choosing sponsorship, that parents need financial help, could be explained more convincingly or linked directly to the company’s community impact. The letter format and purpose are appropriate. To strengthen the response further, develop the concerts’ benefits and give a more specific, balanced justification for your final recommendation.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall structure: an opening, separate discussion of the two options, a recommendation, and a suitable closing. The contrast marker “However” helps signal the move from sponsorship to concerts, while “Consequently” connects support for the team with its likely effect. The recommendation is also easy to locate. Some connections are less smooth or precise, however. For example, “I believe both has its own benefits” introduces the comparison, but the following paragraphs do not develop both options equally. The final paragraph repeats the idea of spending on the children without adding much progression. Use clearer links between each benefit and its outcome, and organise the recommendation around one or two distinct reasons to make the progression more purposeful.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a formal letter, including “financial burden,” “appropriate sports equipment,” “live music,” and “community.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and some less common expressions show an attempt to adopt a formal tone. At times, however, word choice or collocation is awkward: “in response of giving suggestions” and “invest your money in building best community” are not natural ways to express your meaning. “Endorsing” is also less suitable than “sponsoring” in this context, and “elderly people who had not experienced the live music before” is imprecise. Aim for natural, task-specific phrases and check spelling, including “succeed.” This would make the letter sound more fluent and precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a result clause beginning “Consequently” and a relative clause in “which will allow them to focus on their sport.” The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. Examples include “I am resident of city Patiala” (missing articles), “I believe both has” (subject–verb agreement), and “I would advice” (incorrect verb form). Capitalisation and punctuation also need attention, as in “Consequently, This” and “before.Furthermore.” The sentence beginning “As sponsoring…” is not a complete, well-formed clause. Review articles, agreement, verb forms, and sentence boundaries, then proofread for consistent capitalisation. More accurate control of these patterns would make your varied sentence attempts clearer.
