Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear sir or Madam,

I am writing to express my opinion regarding the upcoming sponsorship for either children's sports team or open air concert. From my point of view, both the offering has several benefits to public.

For the sports team, it can benefit to a larger extend because having access to more resources can assist children with expert methods of practice and thus have advantage in the field. If the local team will make big and with the tournaments, it can be beneficial to society.

However, open air concert has some advantages as well. First and foremost is it creates opportunities for employment. Also, most of local businesses gets free promotion which can lead to better performence as a society.

In conclusion, Although both the ideas has some benefits I think company should spend money for the local sports team. The reason for my choice is that, a company sponsorship can elevate the process of training by providing better resources which can motivate more childrens to take part in sports.

Thank you for consideration.

Kind regards,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three requested points and make your recommendation clear: you favour sponsoring the local sports team. The benefits of sponsorship are relevant, particularly access to resources and improved training, while the concert paragraph mentions employment and promotion for local businesses. This meets the task well overall, but the two options are not developed equally: the sports-team benefits are explained more fully, whereas the concert benefits are listed briefly without showing how they would help the wider community. The claim that the team could “make big and with the tournaments” is also unclear, so the reader cannot fully understand this supporting point. To strengthen the response, explain each benefit more precisely and connect your recommendation to the company’s likely community impact.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall structure: an opening, separate paragraphs for the two options, and a conclusion stating your choice. Transitions such as “However,” “First and foremost,” and “In conclusion” help signal the progression, and the reader can follow your main argument. Some linking is mechanical, though, and the relationship between ideas is occasionally unclear. For example, “If the local team will make big and with the tournaments” does not clearly connect the team’s growth to a benefit for society. The conclusion also repeats the training-resource point rather than drawing together the comparison. Use clearer links between cause and effect, and develop the contrast between the options before concluding.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some topic-relevant vocabulary, including “sponsorship,” “resources,” “employment,” “promotion,” and “training,” which allows you to discuss both choices. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “express my opinion” and “beneficial to society.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, sometimes making ideas difficult to interpret. “Benefit to a larger extend” and “make big and with the tournaments” do not express the intended meaning clearly, while “better performence as a society” is vague and includes a spelling error. Aim for precise, natural combinations such as “provide access to professional coaching” and “boost local businesses.” Proofread spelling and choose wording that states the intended benefit directly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional structure (“If the local team will…”) and a reason clause (“The reason for my choice is that…”). The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur and occasionally make relationships between ideas unclear. For example, “both the offering has” has a subject–verb agreement problem, and “most of local businesses gets” has errors in article use and agreement. In “Although both the ideas has,” the plural subject also requires a plural verb. The conditional “If … will make” is not formed naturally for this meaning. Review agreement, articles, and conditional patterns, and use punctuation consistently when beginning a sentence with “Although.”
