Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to express my views towards your kindness act of spending money for the local community.
From my point of view, you can contribute money for the sports team as they always hard work in their free time by contributing their time towards the game even in exam days preparing for their local competitions. I have seen them struggling to arrange funds when one of their sports equipment got broken or damaged.
I know there are numerous reasons to spend money on organising a concert as it will attract the people from all over city and many people will get to know about our small town which will help grow up the local businesses and we will also enjoy the concert for free.
Hopefully thinking , its better if you donate many for the sports team which will help them to stay focused on their sports irrespective of any financial problem as if they reach at high levels then we can celebrate their victory by organising big concert.
I am hoping for positive prompt from your side.
Kind regards,
sandhu

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points and make your recommendation clear: you favour supporting the sports team, explaining that funding could help replace damaged equipment and let players focus on sport. You also identify benefits of the concerts, including attracting visitors, supporting local businesses and giving residents free entertainment. These are relevant ideas, and the letter’s purpose is clear. However, the sports-team benefits are more developed than the concert benefits, which are mostly listed rather than explained. The final suggestion that a team victory could later be celebrated with a concert is engaging, but it does not add much support for the company’s choice. To strengthen the response, explain more specifically how either option would benefit the company or community.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall sequence: an opening, a paragraph for each funding option, a recommendation and a closing. This makes the main message easy to follow, and phrases such as “From my point of view” and “I know there are numerous reasons” help signal the discussion. Some connections are less smooth, however. The long sentence about the sports team combines their effort, exam preparation and equipment problems without clearly separating these points. The final paragraph also moves quickly from recommending sponsorship to imagining a future concert. Use shorter sentences and clearer links between each benefit and your recommendation. Paragraphing is appropriate, but more precise referencing would make the progression feel less mechanical.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “local competitions,” “sports equipment,” “local businesses” and “financial problem.” There are also attempts at more expressive phrasing, such as “stay focused on their sports” and “celebrate their victory.” However, several word choices and collocations are noticeably inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “kindness act,” “contribute money for,” “grow up the local businesses” and “positive prompt” do not express the intended meanings naturally. “Many” is also used where “money” is intended. Aim to learn common combinations such as “sponsor a team,” “support local businesses” and “a positive response.” More accurate phrasing would make your ideas clearer and more professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a reason clause beginning “as” and a conditional structure in “if they reach at high levels.” This shows some range, and the reader can generally understand your recommendation. However, errors in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence construction remain noticeable. For example, “they always hard work” needs a finite verb, while “one of their sports equipment got broken” has an agreement and countability problem. The sentence beginning “Hopefully thinking” is also not grammatically complete, and the long sentence about the team is difficult to control. Practise building accurate clauses first, then combine them with conjunctions. Check subject–verb agreement and use complete sentences, especially in the recommendation.
