Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 155 words. Consequently, the development of ideas is severely limited. While you attempt to address both the advantages and disadvantages of an aging population, the arguments are underdeveloped and lack specific examples or logical depth. The position is stated but not sustained throughout the essay. To improve, you must expand your points with detailed explanations and relevant real-world examples. The current structure is too brief to fully explore the complexities of the prompt, resulting in a superficial treatment of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay lacks a clear paragraph structure, consisting of a single block of text. This makes it difficult to follow the progression of your argument. While there are some attempts at cohesive devices like 'while' and 'if', they are used repetitively and sometimes inaccurately. The logical flow is hindered by the lack of clear transitions between sentences. To improve, you should organize your response into distinct paragraphs—an introduction, body paragraphs for each side of the argument, and a conclusion—and use a wider variety of linking words to connect your ideas more effectively.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is basic and repetitive, which limits your ability to express complex ideas. Phrases like 'work-friendly' and 'education-friendly' are not standard academic collocations. There are also errors in word choice, such as 'population elderly peoples' instead of 'elderly population' or 'aging population'. You rely on simple, high-frequency words, which prevents you from demonstrating the range required for higher bands. To improve, focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary related to demographics and economics, and practice using synonyms to avoid repeating the same words throughout your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'population are increasing' and 'population are less'. Additionally, sentence structure is often simplistic or run-on, lacking the variety of complex structures needed for higher scores. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and capitalization. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subjects and verbs agree, and practicing the use of complex sentences with appropriate subordinating conjunctions to add depth to your writing.
