Student answer (Band 5.0)

In many countries, people are living longer now than ever before. Some people say an aging population creates problems for governments. Other thinks that there are benefits if society has more elderly people.

There are also many advantages and also some disadvantages of aging population.

The advantages of the aging population is that, this population have courage and much energy to do anything and to break the records and they can achieve many targets and make their country proud. As there are benefits of the aging population there are also some disadvantages of this generation. As they have courage and energy to break the records and to do anything so also this energy can be used walk on the wrong ways and achieve the targets by doing wrong and by legal or illegal ways.

When this population don't achieve their targets and what they want they tries to achieve it by right or either wrong ways, therefore they don't care about it anymore and also in this way they can be proved to be a big danger for the whole nation and for this country.

As there are many disadvantages of the aging population either then the advantages outweigh these all disadvantages.

The reasons for my answer are that these people can do more progress that we expect from them and can work more than any others. One of the real life example in front of us is that the countries who have aging population are making more progress than the other countries.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response addresses the prompt but fails to provide a logical or coherent argument. The definition of 'aging population' appears to be confused with a 'youthful' or 'ambitious' population, as the student describes them as having 'much energy to do anything and to break the records.' This fundamental misunderstanding of the topic means the task is not addressed effectively. The position is unclear, and the supporting ideas are contradictory and lack relevant real-world examples, as the claim that aging populations are more productive is not supported by evidence.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks logical progression. Paragraphs are poorly structured, and the connection between ideas is often confusing. While some cohesive devices are used, such as 'therefore' and 'as there are', they are often applied incorrectly or in a way that does not link ideas logically. The transition between the advantages and disadvantages is abrupt, and the overall flow is hindered by repetitive phrasing and a lack of clear thematic development within paragraphs.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. The student relies on basic, often misused terms, such as 'walk on the wrong ways' and 'do anything'. There is a lack of topic-specific vocabulary related to demographics, economics, or social policy. Word choice is frequently inaccurate, which occasionally impedes the reader's understanding of the intended meaning. The range is insufficient to express complex ideas clearly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that affect readability. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Other thinks', 'this population don't achieve'), article usage, and sentence structure. While simple sentences are generally understandable, attempts at more complex structures often result in errors that cause confusion. Punctuation is also inconsistent, and the overall control of grammar is weak, placing the response in the lower band range.
