Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response addresses the prompt regarding an aging population and whether advantages outweigh disadvantages, but the treatment is very basic and repetitive. Furthermore, the length requirement has not been met, as the essay contains only 221 words, falling short of the 250-word minimum. The writer states a clear position that advantages outweigh disadvantages, pointing to life experience and family unity, but ideas are under-developed and lack extension or concrete examples. Generalisations are simplistic, such as stating that old people 'teache us about practical life'. Because the response is under-length and ideas are insufficiently developed to reach a Band 6 level, a Band 4.0 is assigned in accordance with the descriptors for a minimal and under-developed response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The essay lacks proper paragraphing and a clear overall structure, consisting mostly of a run of loosely connected sentences and very short paragraphs that do not separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices are basic, inaccurate, or repetitive, with frequent use of simple connectors like 'moreever', 'as per statement', and 'beacuse'. The logical progression of ideas is hindered by abrupt shifts between discussing advantages, acknowledging opposing views briefly, and returning to personal opinions. Pronoun referencing is also frequently unclear, as seen in phrases like 'tell them to our parents about unity they beleived on unity'. This level of organisation aligns with the Band 4 descriptors.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is basic, repetitive, and restricted to everyday terms such as 'good thing', 'old people', 'problems', and 'life'. There are numerous spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'comnmunities', 'belive', 'teache', 'moreever', 'descisions', 'metntality', 'becasue', 'trainning', and 'beacuse'. While communication is occasionally achieved, the limited range and frequent lexical inaccuracies cause strain for the reader. These features reflect the characteristics of Band 4, where vocabulary is basic and repetitive, and errors in spelling and word formation are prominent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
Grammatical control is weak, with a very limited range of sentence structures attempted. Most complex or compound structures are faulty, resulting in run-on sentences and major punctuation errors, such as missing capitalisation at the start of sentences and after full stops (e.g., 'as per statement some people...'). There are frequent errors in verb forms, tense consistency, and subject-verb agreement, such as 'older peoples living', 'old peoples are blessing', and 'they are always think'. These frequent errors frequently impede understanding and reflect the upper limits of a Band 4 performance for grammar.
