Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The student addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of an aging population, and presents a clear position that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and lacks depth. For example, the advantage of having elderly people is vaguely described as 'helping us to get more knowledge and support' and knowing 'home remedies,' without robust elaboration or concrete real-world examples. The reasoning in the third paragraph regarding government pensions and public health is also rather confused and unclear ('taking life of others'). Therefore, the response aligns best with Band 5.5 to 6.0 descriptors, earning a solid Band 6.0 for addressing all parts of the task with relevant, if somewhat under-developed, ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear four-paragraph structure, including a distinct introduction and conclusion. However, cohesion is often faulty or mechanical. The opening sentence contains a fractured transition ('whereas other says'), and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as ambiguous pronoun usage ('saving there money and taking life of others'). Paragraphing is present, but the internal logical progression within paragraphs is sometimes disrupted by confusing sentence structures and repetitive phrasing. Transitional devices are used, but they are occasionally misused or unnatural (e.g., 'Following this'). Consequently, the coherence and cohesion reflect Band 5.5 characteristics, leaning toward a stable Band 5.0 in terms of mechanical errors.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'detreminal' (detrimental) and 'significant drawbacks'. However, there are frequent word-choice, spelling, and collocation errors that occasionally impede communication, such as 'succeed in everything tasks', 'home remedies to cure the treatment', and 'stable there expenses'. Spelling mistakes like 'detreminal' and homophone confusion ('there' instead of 'their') are noticeable throughout the text. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the general argument, these persistent inaccuracies cap the lexical score at a Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing subordinating conjunctions like 'although' and 'whereas'. However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors in punctuation, subject-verb agreement, and sentence fragments (e.g., 'For example, it can help us knowing more home remedies to cure the treatment.' and 'Owning to the fact that this is becoming an issue for them , thinking that they are burden to the country.'). Many complex structures are faulty, and errors frequently cause difficulty for the reader. Given the high frequency of grammatical slips and awkward phrasing, the writing aligns closely with the Band 5.0 descriptors.
