Student answer (Band 5.5)

Now a days in most countries the average of life increased and there are more elderly people's in societies. Some individuals argues that the elderly people increased problems for government while other argues that the more elderly people population has benefits to the society. i believe that elderly people have more benefits and the advantages of benefits outweigh the disadvantages.

To begin with, In societies of elderly people have some benefits. Firstly, when there are more overage people in the society their are more knowledge found in particular community. For instance, By having old people in your homes and communities people gain knowledge through their experience and they are more sensible as compare to the societies where there are less old people. For example, retired teachers and business owner can guide you people. Furthermore, many elderly people continued to work, volunteer or help their families.

On the other hand, One major disadvantage of an aging population is the increased pressure on government services. Elderly people may need more healthcare and financial support after retirement. Therefore, governments may have to spend more money on hospitals, pensions and social care. In addition, if the number of retired people becomes much higher than the working population, there may be fewer workers paying taxes to support these services. This can create financial pressure on the government.

In conclusion, an aging population can create challenges, particularly for healthcare, pensions and government finances. However, older people can also contribute valuable experience and support to families and communities. Therefore, I believe that the benefits can outweigh the disadvantages when elderly people are given opportunities to remain active and involved in society.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both the problems and benefits associated with an aging population and presenting a clear position that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. The ideas are generally relevant, but the support tends to be somewhat repetitive or generalized. For instance, the discussion on knowledge and experience in the second paragraph mentions retired teachers and business owners, but the development remains basic rather than fully extended. Similarly, the points regarding healthcare and government finances are sound but lack deep exploration. According to the Band 6 descriptor, the student addresses all parts of the task although some areas are under-developed, and a clear position is presented throughout the essay. To improve, the student should provide more specific, developed examples rather than relying on brief generalizations.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay has a recognizable overall structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, demonstrating a logical sequence of ideas. Cohesive devices are used to signal transitions, such as 'To begin with', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion'. However, referencing and paragraph internal cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical. For instance, the phrase 'their are more knowledge found' breaks flow, and pronoun referencing in sentences like 'guide you people' is slightly awkward. Paragraphing is utilized, though some internal transitions feel abrupt. This aligns with Band 6, where the arrangement is coherent overall, but cohesion is occasionally faulty or mechanical, and referencing is not always completely clear.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, successfully using topic-specific terms like 'aging population', 'healthcare', 'pensions', and 'working population'. However, there are noticeable word-choice and collocation errors throughout the text, such as 'Now a days', 'average of life increased', 'elderly people's', and 'overage people'. These errors occasionally draw attention, but they do not impede overall communication. The vocabulary attempts are generally appropriate for a Band 6 score, which describes an adequate range for the task with attempts at less common vocabulary that include some inaccuracy and spelling or word-choice errors that do not prevent the reader from understanding the message.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as conditional and concessive clauses (e.g., 'if the number of retired people becomes much higher...'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and article usage, as seen in 'Some individuals argues', 'there are more elderly people's', and 'their are more knowledge found'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with run-on constructions and unnecessary capitalization like 'In Societies of elderly people'. Because the errors persist across both simple and complex sentences without entirely impeding communication, the response fits the Band 5 to Band 6 threshold, settling firmly at 5.5 due to the density of basic grammatical inaccuracies.
