Student answer (Band 5.5)

In many countries, some people say an aging population creates issues for governments. While other people think there are benefits if society has more elderly people.

I consider there is a balance between advantages and disadvantages of having aged people in a society. And if that balance shifts towards one side, population dynamics faces a myhemmmmmm

There are many advantages of having elderly people in a population. For example, older men are more experienced as compared to young generation. Their wisdom carries a great importance in building a foundation of next generation. They are emotionally more stable and have abilities to face difficult situations more camly. While the younger people are compartively less emotionally intelligent and have lesser ability to resolve conflicts. There is universally accepted mindset that older people are more connected to culture, relegion and norms.

There are also many cons of having an aging poplutation. Firstly, they have lower energy to perform tasks that are physical demanding. For physically demanding chores, younger people are more capable. This aspect is very crucial in various industries like construction, infrastructure, agriculture etc. All these industries face a shortage of workers. Governmental policies are alligned to allow more immigrants labour workers in order to fulfill that shortage. Secondly, older citizens are more adamant in their thinking. They are less likely to change their bad habits, way to living. This rigid behavior makes progress of a society slower.

To summarise the whole discussion, although there are pros and cons of an aging population but there is a natural balance to keep the society ruuning in the best possible way. And if the balance is disturbed by external influence that could have its own consequences.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You discuss both advantages and disadvantages and give a position that there is a “balance” between them, supported by points about older people’s experience and the physical demands of some industries. However, the response only partially answers the key question: it does not clearly judge whether the advantages outweigh the disadvantages, and the conclusion repeats the idea of balance rather than resolving that comparison. Several claims are broad or insufficiently explained, such as older people being more connected to culture and younger people being less emotionally intelligent. The unfinished phrase about population dynamics also leaves the opening position unclear. To strengthen the response, state explicitly which side is stronger and develop each main point with a specific explanation or relevant example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for advantages and disadvantages, and a concluding paragraph. This helps the reader identify the main sections. However, the overall progression is limited: the introduction promises a balance but does not explain how the two sides will be weighed, and the conclusion does not bring the comparison to a clear outcome. Linking is sometimes mechanical or inaccurate, as in “While other people think…” and “And if that balance shifts…,” which are fragments rather than smoothly connected sentences. The advantages paragraph also moves through several claims without showing how they relate. Use complete topic sentences, clearer transitions between points, and references that make the relationship between each example and your position explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “population dynamics,” “emotionally stable,” “physically demanding,” “immigrants,” and “shortage of workers.” These choices show an attempt to discuss social and economic effects rather than relying only on basic terms. However, the range is uneven, and several spelling errors or imprecise expressions reduce control: “myhemmmmmm,” “poplutation,” “relegion,” and “ruuning” are distracting, while “older men” is narrower than the task’s focus on elderly people generally. Some collocations are also awkward, such as “carries a great importance” and “way to living.” Proofread carefully and choose precise, natural phrases; this will make your ideas easier to follow and give your vocabulary a more consistent academic tone.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex structures, including “While the younger people are…” and “Although there are pros and cons…,” and the main meaning is generally understandable. However, control is inconsistent, particularly in longer sentences and clauses. “While other people think there are benefits…” is a dependent clause presented as a sentence, and “I consider there is a balance” needs a different construction, such as “I believe there is a balance.” In “population dynamics faces,” the subject–verb agreement is incorrect; “industries like…” also needs a clearer grammatical connection to the preceding sentence. The final sentence beginning “And if…” is another fragment. Practise joining dependent clauses to complete main clauses, checking agreement, and punctuating sentence boundaries so that complex structures remain accurate.
